There is two different types of spina bifida the spina bifida occulta and spina bifida aperta.Spina bifida occulta is the mildest condition and can go without being noticed.This can be covered with skin ,but the defect might have a patch of hair,a birthmark or a dimple.Spina bifida aperta has two parts to it ,the Meningocele and the Myelomeningocele .The Meningocele is where the membrane protects and covers the brain and spinal cord.If the baby has damaged nerves around the spine it can cause the infant severe health problems.Myelomeningocele …show more content…
There is not a cure for spina bifida. This is because of the nerve tissue being damaged and cannot be repaired, nor the function can be restored to the damage in the nerves. Treatment depends on whether the severity of this birth defect. Most of the time children with the mildest form need no treatment, although some children may require surgery as they grow older.
I choose this topic because it seemed the most interesting to research.Learning about different things is always fun.Preventing things like this for later on in life is important when being pregnant.
