Hero. A person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character. Many people in the world have heroes to look up to. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Amelia Earhart, Anne Frank, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, are all influential people kids learn about or know. But what about the ones we see in comic books, such as Captain America or Iron Man? They aren’t real people that saved the day. They only saved the day in comic books, TV shows, and movies. Common Sense Media states, “From chiseled-chest action stars to scorched-earth video game heroes to tough-talking TV guys, the media’s images, characters, and messages are loud and clear: to be a man, you must be intimidating, stoic, and domineering.” Is this the only way to be a man? Superheroes are heroes, especially in children's comic books and …show more content…
Perhaps that is true, but just because they aren’t real doesn’t mean their actions and words can save us one day. Let’s take a look at Spider Man. Peter Parker (Spider Man) is only a teenage boy attending high school. He lost both his parents in a plane crash and his uncle to a criminal. Parker is a boy with a broken family. He has every right to think he needs to get revenge on others because of his situation. But does the teenage boy really become like a criminal as expected? No, instead of coming up with a villainess plan to destroy all of New York, Peter chose to become a hero. As the Washington Post states, “a transformational moment that instills within Spider Man not only a sense of obligation to use his powers to protect people but also a tragic understanding of what can happen when those who have the ability to stand up do not.” Spider Man may have lost almost everyone he loved, but it doesn’t stop him for standing up for others and saving lives. Heroes like Spider Man can teach us to stand and let us know there is always a second

It is common to think of superheroes at the mention of a hero, but a hero does not have to have powers or special abilities to be a hero. Part of being human is that we feel pain and emotion, how these feelings are shaped is how we may define the person as either a hero or an anti-hero. Peter Parker comes to my mind, when his uncle was shot in cold blood and how he had to use his spider powers for the greater good. However, I would name Peter/Spider-Man as an anti-hero because his path to heroism began with his intent of vengeance. In this instance the suffering helped to create empathy and I believe that empathy is necessary for heroic action.…

Muscular men with superhuman features is the definition of a hero on google. Even though superheroes in comics can be heroes, true heroes are ones who normally aren’t recognized for their physical features, but their actions. In The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, Darrel Curtis is considered a hero because he raises and cares for his siblings and friends. Darry can also be recognized as an anti-hero considering he slapped Ponyboy in anger. “Tragedy of college student, 19, left to raise her three younger siblings after both parents killed in Hurricane Sandy”, by Rachel Quigley from Daily Mail, likewise shows Zoe Everett being a hero because, like Darry, she also cares for her siblings after her parents’ death.…

As with almost every superhero fan I know, I fell in love with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in last year’s “Captain America: Civil War.” As such, despite some recent lackluster attempts at Spider-Man movies, I was extremely excited for Holland’s solo outing, even though Spider-Man is not one of my more beloved superheroes. For the most part, this movie proved a satisfying picture. Set a couple months after “Civil War,” Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Holland) is eager to become a full-fledged Avenger. He still has the suit Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) gave him, and he’s using it to fight lower level crime in New York City to prove himself to his ironclad mentor.…

Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
