Everyone speeds, or at the very least has driven faster than the posted speed limit sign. Some may argue that the speed limits should remain the way they are, however, the article “Speed Doesn’t Kill” shows readers logos, ethos, and pathos by providing simple statistical information from several resources along with person insight to argue that speed limits should be reasonably increased. The author, Matthew L. Herbert, argues that the majority of people don’t get in car crashes from someone driving too fast, it’s because the driver was reckless. It is extremely important to make your readers able to emotionally relate to your argument.…

The government knew that if people were forced to drive slower their vehicles would use less gas. In 1975, this law was made permanent because it seemed like driving slower was safer.…

Many people speed because they will get to their destination from minutes to hours sooner. The opportunity cost of driving at the speed limit is the time that is lost that the person could have been used for participating in other doings. Most people would obviously choose to speed if this was the only choice in whether to speed or not, but there is the possibility of a speeding ticket. Many people choose not to speed because it is not worth the cost of speeding, while others have an inelastic response of the cost of speeding and do not care how much the speeding ticket would be in comparison to the time saved speeding.…

Despite decades of public service announcements about the dangers of speeding, the problem is alive and well today. A common reason for this is that it's easy to do and doesn't feel dangerous. Cars have powerful engines and have very smooth and quiet rides. When sitting on comfortable upholstery and surrounded by music, it's easy to forget that a wrong movement of the hand on the steering wheel can kill the occupants of the car. People also speed because of attitudes shaped by common myths.…

Say you were going the posted speed limit and there probably would have been enough time to slam on the brakes. Reckless and pointless speeding takes lives every day, and I would hate to have to feel that pain everyday of knowing I hurt someone by pure carelessness. The impact on a person in a crash at 60 mph is equivalent to falling from a four story building, while the impact at 100 mph equals falling from a twelve-story building. While you’re speeding, you have significantly less time to check your surroundings. When a driver is speeding, other drivers have a hard time telling how fast they are going.…
