What Kind Of Speech Should I Do?

Improved Essays
While working on this speech, there were a few questions that came to my head. The first question that I was, “What kind of speech should I do?” This was my initial question because I wanted to speak on numerous topics such as a change in a proposition, reducing the cost of popcorn and drinks at the movie theatre (did not think this might have been a civil issue debate), etc. While doing my speech I had a few concerns that came to my head. The first concern was the way that my audience will react to my topic and if they will want to hear my speech. Based on my topic that I chose to do, I thought to myself that I already had a biased audience that will not care for my speech based on the way they are involved with my topic. The other concern …show more content…
I said visual aid because looking back at both of my recordings, I explained my topic/idea but I knew that some things I said were not things that my audience were familiar with. But while speaking, with the use of my visual aid, the topic that I was talking about finally made sense. Also, I said my visual aid because it made my speech very organized. I used my visual aid to help me out with the speech in order to keep it fluent and on time. I also said that my eye contact with my audience was a strength because while looking back at my recordings, I saw that I look at my audience more than what I had expected too. I saw that there were some times that I looked at my outline to refresh my memory, but overall I looked at my audience in order to make a connection between me and them.

After my informative speech, I knew that I needed improvement on my timing and how quick I speak because I went under the time limit for this speech. But after my persuasive speech, I saw that I was able to keep my speech at a constant speed and was able to do my speech in between the time limit. After my persuasive speech, I definitely need improvement on moving away from the podium because that is a distraction to myself and for my

Amanda Wilson Professor Leightenheimer English 1102-01 23 October 2017 Role and Pathos: How Eugene Debs Creates Relatability Crafting and reciting a speech can be an incredibly difficult requirement. The main difference between these and, for example, an essay, is that enunciation and delivery can make or break a speech. With this addition also comes extra importance on understanding and reading the responses of your audience to gauge effectiveness. Speeches need to have a form of an emotional pull to them, or else they sort of inadvertently transition to lectures rather than a form of persuasion. Actions can still be carried out in more logically oriented speeches, but that passion to push someone could be lost.…

    Persuasive Speech

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…

Out-of-Class Speech Critique For my out of class speech critique, I went to listen to Josh Birnbaum talk about his experiences as photographer for Illinois’ wheelchair basketball team. In his speech, he talked about the struggles that the team faced on the way to reaching their goal of winning a college national championship. Furthermore, Josh documented the lives of the players and showed the audience the struggles they faced every day, but showed us how each of them overcame the obstacles. Additionally, he talked about the life long relationships he made with the player by going out with them and practically being a member of the team.…

I clearly passed messages on what I am going to inform audiences i.e. set speech purpose, and separated speech major parts developing main points. I also attempted engagement with audiences by asking questions to make them feel they are articulated in the conversation/discussion as the vital component. All of these things are my strengths. Certainly, these aren’t enough strengths to make a speech the best. Reviewing self-presented video going through it a few times, I found out supporting materials were missing, sub-points were not clearly mentioned, and proper transitions were not made to maintain the chronological flow of information.…

1.) Speaking to persuade is much more difficult than speaking to inform. When you are speaking to inform, you are simply relaying information to the audience. However, when you are speaking to persuade, your goal is to relay information and you must change the audience’s mind on the matter.…

Like with anything, it's important to look at the negatives and figure out how to fix them, it's also important to look at the positives and figure out how to retain them. I have three goals for my next presentation and I have figured out how to achieve those goals. My first goal is to maintain good eye contact with my audience and I can do this by being more comfortable with what I need to say. In order to be more comfortable I will need to review and practice what I want to say more often. Another goal is to continue my strength of good organization.…

The presentation “A Liberal Use of ‘Liberal Arts’” by Matt Kirk, is a presentation teaching the audience about the classical view of liberal arts, specifically the trivium. The speaker then explains how the trivium disappeared from current education. Finally, the speaker calls for modern education to use elements of the classical liberal education, in order to make education stronger. The visual aid was very effectively used to create a guide for the audience to follow.…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…

The presentation I attended was about Sustaining Native American Wabanaki Basket-Making Traditions by Dr. Darren Ranco. He actually experienced the basket making in native America, which is why he chose to speak about it. Based on his presentation, his intended audience was probably most anyone. He stated in his speech that it could be for anyone just a little interested to give it a try to look into it. To begin, the speech started off very well, he did not show all of the parts needed for a speech.…

You can tell that I am trying to finish this speech as quickly as possible and this spotlight that I put upon myself really hinders me. I value my opinion as an individual a lot more and I try to make sure that people understand why I am speaking in the first place.…
