Speech Reflection

I performed a speech about why teenage relationships are beneficial on November 1st, 2016 in front of my speech class. Public speaking is something that I had been practicing since I was in the sixth grade, however it is apparent that I continue to struggle with nerves. When my teacher called my name, I realized that I was shaking and trembling pretty badly. I told myself I had practiced beforehand and I knew what I was doing. There are many things I noticed while reviewing my speech, critiquing my own speech performance does not seem to be a problem. As I watch the video of my speech I can see the things I have improved on, on the other hand I can also easily point out things that I want to continue to enhance. I walked up to the podium and took a big deep breath, I wanted to ensure I did not speak fast by slowing my heart rate down. As I re-watch my speech over-and-over I try to pay attention to the big problem I was trying to avoid during my speech, the word “um”. I am very pleased with the fact that I did not cram this forbidden word in as much as I had the last speech. I know from personal experience that when I am trying to gather information from a speaker who says “um”, I get easily distracted and start counting every time this word is said. I plan to get to a point in my public …show more content…
Overall I did an excellent job, it was the longest speech of the year and I delivered the information properly. There were also many things I observed that make me want to work on for my future public speaking experiences. There are always ways to improve on a skill, no matter how good you may think you are at it. By increasing my voice volume and taking out the forbidden “um” from my messages I can start to enhance my speaking skills in a different way. I plan to take time to surpass my own expectations for my next speech by polishing the skills I already

    1. I believe there were some positive aspects of my speech. Firstly, I was not a nervous when speaking in front of the audience. This allowed me to have the speech flow smoother than last time. I was not expecting the audience to be as large as it was this time; but I think the increase of people might have helped easy some of my anxiety.…

To be honest I was never a good public speaker there are times I avoid public speaking there are certain fears I had such as tongue tied, forgetting my lines, the awkward silence when I try to make a joke or point and by being myself blurting out words like "stuff" or "shit" unconsciously. I know it's so unprofessional but it happened quite a few times. After speaking in public I kinda dwell on what I said something that bothered me or that was unsaid.…

When it comes to speaking in front of people, I get nervous. Whether there are a few people in the room or a huge auditorium full of people. It has been an obstacle for me throughout my life. From show and tell in 3rd grade to big projects in high school, I always became flustered. I’ve always been scared of not being good enough, until one day I decided to make some changes.…

In reflection to my second speech in public speaking, I believe it turned out better this time than the last. When I got up in front of the class, I was a little shaken up. I really believe this was because I was too organized. As I stood at the podium, I felt overwhelmed. I realized I over prepared and I did not know where to start.…

I need to learn how to talk at a slower rate when giving my speeches as well. I am a fast talker in general, but become even more of a fast talker when I get nervous, which tends to happen quite frequently when I am giving my speeches. I think the more I practice, the more confident I will be, which will stop me from relying on my note card as often, it will help me not talk as quickly when speaking in front of everyone, and it will help me become a better speaker overall. Another area of improvement I feel like I could work on getting better at is not putting so much content or information…

After noticing the speaker’s confidence during the speech, it became clear that his calmness and ability to speak clearly, his ability to refer to his notes and to use the power point at the same time and also his ability to ensure he was the source of the information he was giving made his delivery good. This informative speech could have been improved with more body movement during the transitions and a good eye contact with the…

Up during my speech specificly the last one, i felt super nervous, but looking back i appeared confident and great body gestures. The one thing that doesn 't surprise me is that in all my speeches i managed to have a great tone of voice and enthusiasm. Personally my strongest performance had to be the persuasive speech, after looking at it i noticed i looked the most confident, my content, my structure, and my transitions were spot on. My weekest performance however was my first speech, i looked so nervous, i had very little content, i was not into the speech, no transitions, and like i said i learned a lot from this…

The first thing I noticed in my video is that I say “umm” way too often. The first time I said, “umm” in my speech was at 0:10 and continued to say it throughout my whole entire speech. I found it quite annoying when listening to myself. It is my go to word when I am nervous and it is something I really need to work on. The second thing I noticed is that I don’t look professional when giving my speech because instead of standing up straight and tall, I lean to the side and kind of stick my hip out.…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…

Throughout the course, I learned different aspects of project management, and skills that can be used in the everyday life as long as involve interacting with other people. In this class I learned about how to be a better team member. This semester I was reminded of how important communication is and how people need to keep emphasizing it as one of the most important skills any person could possesses. The personality test was useful, I think it gave all of us a good way to start to see how everyone is different. It made it easier for each of us to better understand one another in how our unique personalities can be a challenge when working with others.…

The interview speech experience definitely taught me a lot more than I had expected. The interview portion of this project was just as much of a learning experience as the speech. I gained I better understanding of the verbal and non-verbal skills I mastered, changes I would make, and the experiences of other people. Verbal skills are something that I feel I have not completely mastered yet. However, there are some I noticed a great improvement in since the first speech.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
