My first poem is called I Rise and is a free verse:
My name goes down in history
With your bitter remarks,
You may crush me into dirt
But still I rise
Does my appearance upset you?
Why are you overwhelmed with despair?
Though I may be not your type,
Even though you put me down,
Do you want to see me shattered? Do you want me to bow down to you?
My head dropping like teardrops.

The poem conveys the viciousness and ferociousness that racism can have on the impact of not only one person but also a whole community or nation.
