Speech-Language Pathologist Application Essay

Speech-Language Pathology is my passion. To me, there’s no better feeling than to know that I have influenced not only my client’s life but also the individuals surrounding them. I feel fulfilled as a professional who provide scaffolds to help my clients succeed with confidence. The major attributes that has help me achieve my passion have been hard work and commitment. These qualities rationalize why I wanted to become a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in the first place. A dream that initiated when I was young and has led me to my graduate program. I came across a wide range of patients with varying degrees of disorders particularly, childhood developmental disabilities, neuro communication disorders, neuro degenerative disorders and special needs population such as Autism Spectrum disorders (ASD), Down’s syndrome, Learning disability and Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (AD/HD). My clinical experiences have enriched my knowledge in the field and taught me how to integrate that knowledge into clinical practice. Furthermore, after coming to the United States, I was able to volunteer in nursing homes, hospitals and private speech-language therapy clinics which further my interests in the field. These involvements have enhanced my level of compliance and professionalism with clients, families and other health care professionals. My experience also include working as a Learning center tutor, recreational staff and as an Inclusion aid in pre-schools for children with learning disability.
