Speech For National Honor Society

When I was in middle school I was very shy. I would have never called myself a leader back then. However, as I matured and entered high school I began to see my true personality emerge. I went from very shy to social and outgoing. I have taken leadership roles when I can to help further learn about leading people in various groups. My freshmen year of high school I joined the debate team with my friend and now, in my junior year, I have been chosen to be captain for next year’s team. I have helped, along with the captains this year, teach new members the ropes of debate. Debating is one of my many passions in school and it always brings me joy to help other people with the same passion excel. More recently, through the National Honor Society …show more content…
As a leader in debate and any other leadership setting, I maintain communication. It is crucial to be able to effectively communicate with people looking to you for guidance. For example in debate, if a member does not understand an argument, I need to be able to explain it in a way that they will understand. I believe that I have done this many times in debate. I help explain arguments and formulate counter arguments at tournaments and during our weekly meetings. The second most important leadership skill that I maintain is approachability. This skill can apply in every situation but it is most important when leading children. For example during the Readers are Leaders program, I stayed happy, helpful, and smiling when talking to the children. I demonstrate my ability to be a leader by properly communicating and being approachable when someone is looking for …show more content…
In that class I learned about morals and the 5 main characteristics of successful leaders. As a final grade in that class, we were assigned to research a leader that inspires you and how they show the 5 characteristics of leadership. I chose Malala Yousafzai as my leader. After researching her, learning more about her story, and watching her speeches online, she significantly influenced my views on being a successful leader. Malala never fails to speak her mind and stand up for what is right. Her perseverance and determination inspired me to never hold back when seeing a disjustice. While her impact is large and spans the world, she influenced me to start becoming a leader in my own life. After seeing her stick up for what she believes in, I now can speak my opinions freely and respectfully without the fear of others criticism. Because of her great leadership, she has inspired me to become a leader in my community who stands up for what is

At this point in my reading about “I am Malala”, I am intrigued on how many obstacles Malala and her family and others of this country had to endure each and every day in order to live. They had to deal with floods, earthquakes, destruction to their homes and schools and the worst part of living there was dealing with the bombings and the Taliban. Malala’s father believed in education so much so that he started a school to educate girls and boys. He was starting to become a known figure in Swat who started a global piece council that wanted to preserve the environment and promote peace and education.…

When I think of a leader, some prominent name come about: Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, Nelson Mandela, and Malala Yousafzai. These leaders have impeccable integrity and arduous competence, also, they’re tirelessly passionate and inspiringly visionary. My personal definition of leadership is: the ability to empower others to unify through the credibility of a person. The credibility of a leader is the vital reason for their followers; it is based on their integrity, competence, passion, and their visionary ability. When I think of integrity, the first thing that comes to mind is Cesar Chavez; he knew the horrible working conditions of farm workers, he has strong moral principles that led him to lead protests, boycotts and hunger strikes…

Strictly speaking, I never really be a leader. I personally didn’t have many opportunities or the desire to be a leader. This is about my personality, but I do want to push myself a little and have some experiences before I start my career. The closest title that I ever had as a leader was the Vice President of service for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) in my previous college. When I was offered the opportunity, I knew I had to take the responsibility because I thought that could be my first time being a leader.…

I have chosen Malala Yousafzai to do my autobiography project on for many reasons such as I love what she believes in, her story is inspiring, and how strong of a woman she is. The first reason why I chose to do my project on her is because she believes in girls having a right to an education. That is also very important to me as well, because it isn’t fair that women in her country have to get married off at a young age and stay home and do all the cooking and the cleaning. The next reason why I chose her is because her whole life story is inspiring to people all around the world. It is crazy how she stood up for what she believed in everyday even though she was in great danger.…

As I was typing this speech, I didn’t really know where to start. Five minutes is a bit ridiculous, and I tend to be a man of few words, so hopefully this suffices. First of all, I want to thank you all for nominating me to be president of Pi Kappa Alpha Gamma Epsilon. I understand that it is a huge responsibility and I don’t take it lightly at all. When I first got here, the chapter was struggling.…

During my sophomore year, I heard about elections for the president of National Math Honor Society, or NMHS. I was excited as I saw this as the opportunity I had to instill a love of math for my fellow high school peers. Since I had been at the top of my math classes during high school, I anticipated an easy triumph for me, so I imprudently stood idle while my opponents campaigned. Unfortunately, after the voting by my fellow students, I learned I had lost to a junior. I shrank down in my seat and tears formed in my eye, showing my humiliation.…

At my middle school, I was accepted into a leadership class which meant all of my teachers saw potential in me to be a leader. During this time I had no idea what it meant to be a leader or how I was going to show my peers what my teachers saw in me. I was not only in leadership but I was also in different clubs that required the leadership skills I embrace. Being involved lead to many accomplishments. An example is when I helped out with an event called Toys For Tots.…

A great example of a leader is Adolf Hitler. Although Hitler did not have to best political views, he got enough people behind him to take over the entire German Empire and create mass genocides against a race of people who he claimed were “inferior”, so how did he do this? By using his skills to get where he wanted to be, which was leading a country. Being a great leader takes many skills, such as communication, and confidence.…

The first major event that I will identify as having influenced my decision to go to college is receiving the honor of captain of my school’s debate team. Now this influenced me in two ways: The first being that I was now responsible for not only my own success but other people’s success in this program. The second being that this was my first serious engagement as a leader in my school. I struggled with finding a balance between my team’s success and my own and never actually found the perfect equilibrium. Although I never found this harmony, the interaction with other students and their stories led me to my fondness for teaching.…
