Speech About Thanksgiving

Decent Essays
Wow! You have a whole lot going on, on your plate and it all looks so good! I agree that turkey (maybe gravy)is the main food eaten on Thanksgiving that is consistent throughout culture, races, economic status, and ethnicities.

However, I disagree that Thanksgiving is a American holiday because it brings people together to spend time with family. I wouldn't define an American holiday in such way because many non-Americans come together for food, fun, and family in other cultures and countries to give thanks. It is pretty much celebrated in the same way Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. I think "thanksgiving" is an everyday thing that occurs everywhere and anywhere. The difference is,we as Americans, have a special day of recognition to spend

Columbus day should not be celebrated as a holiday because Columbus tortured and killed many native Americans while on his voyage, he was not the first to find the land he discovered, and he never set foot in what is known today as the United States of America. Christopher Columbus is thought to be the founder of the U.S. and the first man to step foot on the land. He is also praised for the discoverment of the New World which consisted of him finding various Caribbean islands, the Gulf of Mexico, and the South and Central American mainlands. Columbus and his journeys were the beginning stepping stones for the long process that eventually produced the United States of America(Textbook 48). Columbus’s discovery was in great magnitude because it was greater than any other discoveries at that time and other discoveries stemmed from it (Textbook 48).…

What was once a peasant's meal now blesses the kitchens of many five star restaurants, but most importantly my own kitchen. Potatoes were originally eaten for a daily dosage of vitamin A and calcium, causing them to be considered a necessity instead of a luxury. Potatoes were easy to grow and took a lot less preparation than most of their original meals. Irish peasant life typically centered around potatoes because they had them three times a day. Even though potatoes are not as prevalent as they once were to my Irish heritage, potatoes represent much more than a side on a plate.…

Last November, a week before Thanksgiving, I was listening to the morning radio talk show The Woody Show and the hosts were talking about how excited they were for the Thanksgiving feast. They all went around and shared what was their perfect meal for that day. It ranged from fried turkey, to stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, and towards the end the hosts argued about cranberry sauce. However, they all agreed that pumpkin pie was essential to the perfect meal. I found it very interesting that while they argued about the way the meal was executed, they all agreed on the basic components to the meal-I didn’t.…
