“A woman who has many casual sexual partners.” -- this is the dictionary definition of the word --slut-. Although, to most people, the word means so much more than what it’s actual meaning is. Many people in this day and age have extreme confusion about what the word actually means. When people think of a slut, they think of the girl who is more open about her sex life; they think of the girl with the baby, or the girls who falls for boys who would never fall for them. This often leads to something called, “slut shaming”. Slut shaming is the act of judging, or looking down on a girl for being sexually active. The ultimate shamer. Now, not only did I have rumors that some petty little boy started, but I had a sign that said, “Call me a skank!” on my body, and it wasn’t a sticky note. It was stretched skin on my stomach and waddles to class. Every day of my pregnancy, I thought of the things that made me a slut. How could I be a slut if I trusted someone important to me enough to have sex with them? How did people make the assumption that I had 5 possible “baby daddies”? How am I the slut when every one of those people who are shaming me are also having sex? I couldn’t understand the logic of slut shaming when they are shaming me for something that they do too. When I was pregnant, I remember my mom being so ashamed to tell people. She would try to hide it from the men she waited on, and didn’t want them to see my belly. Whether I’d like to believe it or not, my mom shamed me for being pregnant by her embarrassment. Slut shaming doesn’t only come from irrelevant, ignorant teenagers, but also from the people who love you the most. In most cases, people are “slut shaming” girls that aren’t even slut’s. People slut shame other people who have sex with their boyfriends, or girls who trust the wrong boys. Unfortunately, slut shaming never happens to boys in most cases. When boys are having sex, they are praised for it. Boys are almost admired for having sex. When a girl has sex, she is suddenly “disrespecting” her body, and is a “disgrace”. As one can see. slut shaming has a huge effect on people’s lives. Shaming women for doing what they want with their bodies is almost the most important things and some people’s lives. People shame other people for doing what everyone is doing, and it needs to come to a stop. Slut shaming puts girls down for making decisions that don’t harm anyone. The act of shaming another person for their sexual activity is wrong and needs to end, otherwise eventually, everyone would be labeled a
