I knew this one-hour car ride wouldn’t go fast. Isn’t it crazy how one boring hour in a car can feel like an entire month? Today, my 17-year-old cousin Madison, my Mom, my Aunt, my 2 sisters Ella, Lilly, and I are visiting Pawsitively Furever Dog Rescue to adopt a dog! Or at least I hope so. We can’t adopt a dog in a car, let alone a moving car. Eventually, we drove to what looked to be a small brown house with a darker brown roof in a parking lot. Beside the house, there was some grass, and around the parking lot, there were some buildings. At last, the car screeched to a stop, and everyone hopped out. We walked over to the door and stepped inside. The first thing I noticed were dogs in cages, and a leather couch to the right of me. Suddenly, something else caught my attention. Madison was kneeling down on the floor attempting to pet a small puppy with her finger through the cage. Immediately, I slid across the floor to where she was to get a good look at the puppy she was petting. Using two fingers I stroked her small fuzzy head. She was gorgeous, brown eyes, blond fur, and the tip of her tail, as well as her ears, were a light caramel color. Poor puppy, she sat in her cage, staring at the floor while another dog in the cage with her barked furiously at the door that had just been opened. Finally, someone told us the puppy's name, Muffin. At that moment, I knew I wasn’t leaving this shelter unless Muffin was coming too. The next hour was a …show more content…
Dad likes to keep things clean, neat, and organized. So, a puppy wasn’t something he wanted. Dad had three requirements, the dog must not shed, the dog must not be a puppy, and the dog must not be a lab. Muffin was all those things, Muffin sheds a lot considering she’s a lab and she’s a puppy. But Muffin’s personality is like no other. She is so sweet and calm that I just have a feeling Dad will fall in love with her just like we did. Once we reached the driveway, Mom started panicking, I didn’t know why though. I was excited to see Dad’s reaction. Mom helped Muffin out of the car and put her on the leash we purchased. Slowly we tip-toed over to Dad hiding behind any tree we could find. Eventually, we ran out of trees. Mom handed me the leash, I was in control now. I walked Muffin over to Dad, halfway there Dad saw Muffin, Muffin saw Dad. Muffin was the first one to do something, her tail started wagging like we’d never seen it before. Purposefully, I dropped the leash and watched as Muffin sprinted over to Dad. Just as I’d hoped, Muffin jumped right on top of Dad, happy to be

When she found out she was shocked, “the reason it was deeded to the veterinary students was that the barn had bats and we were the only ones guaranteed to have a rabies vaccination” (Vogelsang 45). Near the end of the story when Jessica is explaining what happened to their deceased family dog, her young children misunderstand her message that their dog went to Heaven; her son said, “She’s going to Kevin” (Vogelsang 308). This simple statement brings light to the topic of their beloved pet’s passing. I sincerely recommend this memoir to everyone, especially animal lovers. Anyone who has ever had a pet will understand the wonderful messages in the story.…

It was hard to remember the dog Seeley had been before she became ill. A happy girl with curly, silver hair that relished each morning and delighted in each night. We knew she had been through quite a lot in her life, telling from the moon-like cataract clouding her left eye and the swollen nipples that hung lowly from her stomach. She enjoyed cuddling and seldom barked, but did often make weird scoffing noises when she was excited. She was our baby.…

Happiness Such a powerful word in American culture Much of my life, I had thought of happiness as a rather nebulous term. I also had some impressions that because I was fortunate enough to have been born in a first world country, happiness was just part of the package. That general disengaged and not important perspective changed about a decade ago when my wife and I learned that she had cancer. I needed to do some inner reflection for strength and direction.…

Prior to my new dog’s adoption, my sister and I would often go and visit the animals that were crated outside Petco and up for adoption by their foster families. The past three weekends of April we had gone to look around and tease ourselves with the thought of a new dog, we had met a sweet Jack Russell. Now, sweet she was affectionate, well-tempered, and lovely, but as we say in my house, she was a “hot mess”. This dog had vampiric teeth that stuck out from under her top lip accenting her white beard below and scruffy hairs flying from all directions of her head and limbs. But something in my heart saw that dog and of course fell in love.…

At this moment, I experienced a very high level of happiness. I realized that I have the ability to control my happiness and push its limits further by suffering and spending long nights working hard to achieve a desired goal. In addition, I observed the fine difference between happiness and its causes. Happiness is a brief memorable moment that takes one’s breath away, but the causes lie in the thrill of effort. In other words, the more pain, and the longer the tough nights are, the more thrilling happiness…
