Gossip

I want to start off by asking, how many of you have talked about someone? Whether it’s in a good or bad way. Most of you guys raised your hand and you probably thought back on a rumor you spread, or heard about. You may not notice it, but nine times out of ten you are gossiping. 80% of our conversations are spent on discussing other people and their habits Black said in 2009. When people think of gossip, it’s mainly thought of someone else talking trash on another person, spilling secrets, or even lies. Research shows that spreading hurtful gossip can lead to self-imaging problems, and initially make that person lose all trust for the person they told. Spreading rumors is a form of bullying and excluding an individual from a group of friends. This makes them feel less superior or even lonely. One of the main reasons I say we should spread positive gossip is because this will decrease death rates from any kind of bullying. I feel hurtful gossip is gratuitous, because you’re not profiting anything from it. In the bible gossip is frowned upon, causing it to be a sin. Normally we wouldn’t look at gossip as a sin more as just a conversation. There are three main verses in proverbs that state it; such as, “There are six things the lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: naughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community,” (Proverbs 6:16-19) “A wicked person listens to deceitful lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue,” (Proverbs 17:4) “A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.” (Proverbs 20:19) Spreading positive gossip can benefit anyone just by not sinning. Positive gossip can make someone’s day by pointing out accomplishments, reversing the effect of hurtful gossip. Making gossip fun by compliments can also reverse the effect of hurtful gossip causing it to uplift a person. You also don’t have to be a part of negative gossip. Just by walking away, keeping busy, having a private life, or substitute it with something positive. The real question everyone would probably like to know is who actually gossips more? Studies have proven in 2014 that men typically gossip more than women. Men gossip to mainly fit in with a group, it benefits their social status building friendships to a

He would view gossiping as a sin, and even though Rhonda initially felt guilty about participating in it, ultimately, it was still her choice. Just like with the first scenario, St. Augustine would chastise Rhonda for her choices. He would tell her that gossiping is simply a distraction that keeps her from truly connecting her spirit to God. The best advice St. Augustine would give Rhonda is to repent and change her ways.…

In addition, tracking a rumor as it spreads helps those affected, such as a company, to plan and advertise in the area where it is most prominent to help eliminate the rumor.…

A persuasive speech may also be informative because of the information it contains, but an informative speech will never be persuasive. The reason behind this is in order to persuade the audience to take your side in a matter they may also need to be informed more about the topic before making their decision, making this a persuasive speech.
