During the book, colors are throughout with no definite pattern to their placement. Sporadic color description lures the reader into a variety of moods and judgment is initiated. Presented with a description of an object, person, or place, color is often used to assist visualization. In Fitzgerald 's novel specific colors are hidden in the text providing a purpose far more in depth rather than just giving a visual description. “Color plays an important role in the initial processing of visual stimuli,” (Henderson 673) that are a vital to the physiological aspect of “evidence that color terms affect how one remembers or makes judgments about colors” (Sapir-Whorf 1). White in eastern cultures is to represent the mourning of someone that is deceased. “Gatsby in a white flannel suit,” (Fitzgerald 89) is the possibility to an elaborate in depth foreshadow of his demise in the closing of the novel. The associated reaction and respond to the color is envy. The saying green with envy is very relatable in the story. Jay Gatsby envies Tom, for he gets to live and love the women of Gatsby’s dream, Daisy. Reading, looking, or experiencing a world without color is unfathomable. Personal preference is developed in turn an individual has a favorite color.
