To begin with, Mr. Reshetov’s time management is lacking. Extended periods of time are being spent teaching small portions of the curriculum while other portions are not even mentioned. Students are forced to teach themselves vast amounts of material that sometimes have not ever been mentioned in class. Also, in many cases, students are studying the wrong things because Mr. Reshetov does not provide adequate information as to what is expected to be known. Many standards have not even been mentioned. As a result, students are not achieving their best potential, evident in the many failing …show more content…
We have a right to receive fair instruction that meets the needs of the students. Some of us feel the need to drop down to a lower level class in order to pass and feel successful. This is not because we are not apt enough to understand the information, but because we are struggling to teach ourselves. Johns Creek has plenty of core values that make it the school it is. We understand students should be challenged, but the question is at what extent? It is understandable that chemistry can be difficult and some parts of the learning process do require time to be put in at home but many of us students also take other rigorous classes. There is simply not enough time at home- not to mention extra-curricular activities- to relearn everything we were supposed to have been taught, or merely informed that we should know, in class. This not only creates increased pressure on students, who are trying their absolute best, but it can also lead to depression and heightened …show more content…
It is what happened next that really made us feel uneasy. Mr. Reshetov said something along the lines of “I have gotten a bad vibe from you” and “I feel like you are challenging my authority”. The student immediately said that was not the case at all. At this point we think he should have left the student alone and continued teaching. Instead of moving on, he further persisted in saying something along the lines of “from now on I’m going to look at you as a student who will always question me”. He went on for a bit on how he would look at the student differently and then said “unless you want to forget about this”. This seemed like a personal threat to the student with grading and the general relationship with Reshetov. We found this extremely inappropriate, especially due to the fact that the student had already explained to his authority that her “disrespect” was not intentional and apologized for the way she came across. We understand that students can be disrespectful, and that should never be tolerated, but this was an extreme reaction to a student whose intent was not to be uncivil or ill-mannered. We are very scared that something that we might say could be misinterpreted and cause him to look at us in a negative way. We would be upset if any teacher looked at us in a negative way, but the way he seemed to threaten that student was very
