Specific History Class Analysis

This specific history class has advanced my ability to learn and think differently compared to my cognitive and learning kills prior to the course at Richland College through the numerous ways the professor teaches the class. As this semester was my first college experience, I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as how to study and for how long, how I should take notes during class, how long I should study for tests, and even how I should study for tests. Yet I found that the course wasn’t difficult at all because the professor set up the class so that students knew how to take notes and how to study and how to prepare themselves for tests.
In the class, the professor taught using Microsoft PowerPoint, but he expanded the lessons beyond the program.

    1. Sugar was very important to the people at this time and changed everyday life completely due to its economic and dietary importance. Throughout the years’ sugar became cheaper and available to people in the middle class as well as poor people, because of its availability the symbol of sugar declined or power. “As for sugar, it was transformed from a luxury of kings into kingly luxury of commoners-a purchased luxury that could be detached from one status and transferred in use to another” (Mintz, 96). This quote explains how sugar became useful to everyone because there were large quantities of it.…

    Eng 309 Class Analysis

Hello Prof. Shaw, I'm afraid that I'm having difficulties with Katherine Conway’s ENG 309 class, and I was hoping you could advise me. First, I received a poor grade on a paper recently that will certainly hurt my grade significantly and I was wondering what grade I needed to get in the class for it to count towards my creative writing and literature major? I'm afraid I may get a C. Second, when I met with Prof. Conway this past Friday to find out exactly why my grade was so low she spoke to me in a loud, harsh, and overbearing tone that, combined with her demeaning and accusatory language, crossed the line into emotional abuse. I was holding back tears minutes into our conversation; before I left she stated that she did not understand why I did not understand the prompt and that she could not give me a better grade until I figured it out. I barely made it out of her office before tears were rolling down my face and by the time I made it back to my room I was sobbing uncontrollably.…

Most people think of textbook as a book of information and facts. The United States History fifth grade textbook goes beyond that. Yes, it does cover the topics that needs to be covered, but it goes beyond that by far. Not only does it follow history in a time line matter, it provide teachers with information on different cultures, landmarks, and events that made this County what it is today. The sections are small and informative and this will be beneficial to all learners.…

As of 2015, the College Board’s AP US History program has received a major overhaul from its controversial 2014 edition, but there some that believe that this is not enough. The 2014 edition of the standardized AP US History curriculum bred much strife among teachers and parents from its supposed liberal agenda and perceived cynical view of history. Although revisions have been made, some of the opponents of the College Board believe a single company should not have the final decision on what will be taught to the highest students. In particular, William T. Ligon Jr., a State Senator from Georgia, who advocated the removal of the AP curriculum from his state, has said, “The problem is that one group has so much influence over what the…

    1. Approaching Typical Assignments in History (24-50) The opening paragraph describes the most fundamental requirement for any student in any discipline, and that is that reading and writing are interrelated processes. It is important to read all assignments carefully and that “close, careful reading of one of more texts, and reading accurately, critically, and analytically is vital”. A researcher must analyze not just written words, but other types of sources, including artifacts, photos, film, as well as primary and secondary sources.…

The class I’m going to prepare for is AP Human Geography. To prepare I’m going to use Quizlet; this will help me get my vocabulary down so I can ace the vocab quizzes. I feel that if I can do better on those quizzes, then my overall grades should go up by at least 10 points. The next thing I need to learn how to do is how to take notes that will help me on chapter tests. If I can nail both of those issues then I should be at a high A.…

    Multiple Choice Worksheet

Mrs. Shewmaker my 11th grade English teacher mainly focused her teaching on multiple choice, which is the most challenging thing students had on the AP test. Taking a multiple choice every Monday seemed like a lot and it was because I would do good on some and not so good on others. The multiple choice would focus on grammar and overall questions that were based on the prompt. Every time we were given a new multiple choice worksheet I would get confused on what the question was asking. These multiple choice practice lowered my grade and made me feel like it was futile doing this because when it comes time to take the AP test the outcome of my score would reflect my grades.…

Back then I rarely studied anything in my class because I had a pretty robust memory and could just remember what I wrote in my notes or what was said in class and for anything that was challenging to me, that’s the only time where I might have used the interleaved practice strategy where I space out something very challenging that loomed over my head coming up before the exam. I learned about all of the helpful strategies such as practice testing in history class when my teacher gave us a quiz every other day, which while being annoying, was surprisingly helpful to…

First, the three levels of analysis are Systemic, State, and Individual. The systemic level focuses on the big international picture: alliances, polarity, and relationships between countries. The state level focuses on the dynamics within a state: its government, bureaucracies, and nationalism. Finally, the individual level focuses on both the large bodies of individuals and their psychology and also the key players in international affairs: politicians, kings, prime ministers, military leaders, etc. To analyze WWI, one must look at all levels of analysis for both the causes and consequences of The Great War.…

Being a student of political science it can sometimes be challenging to explain to others what it means, not everyone can understand a wordy and complicated definition but early in my educational career I was able to understand and break it down into only a few words. The first political science class I took would impact me far greater than I thought, the professor paraphrased Dr. Harold Laswell’s definition “Politics is who gets what, when and how.” Those few simple words continue to be how I decide to describe politics, it is an all encompassing definition that applies perfectly to Congress. Although Congress has changed over time and will continue to change with the great deal of polarization it has always intrigued me that many Americans…

I expected the difficulty of the material to be harder as this was a college course, but I anticipated taking the same approach I had taken to study as previous history courses. I thought I would go to a lecture, take notes, read the textbook, and memorize the information to be reiterated on the test. However, I quickly learned that this was not going to be the typical history lecture I envisioned. On the first day of class when I heard it was a lab initially I was confused,…

Throughout this course we have not only gained factual knowledge about East Asia but also a framework that we can use to understand other countries and cultures around the world. To consider ourselves global citizens, we must have an understanding of the world and the way it works. From learning about the history of East Asia, we now have a better understanding of why it works the way it does today, and that makes us less ethnocentric and more empathetic toward others. This course has allowed me the opportunity to grow more as a global citizen, and to see where I have achieved and failed at pushing to see beyond myself and be a more inclusive person. Asides from the overt growth of knowledge about East Asian and its history, I have also gained an appreciation for the past and understanding that we cannot always believe what has been told and retold throughout history.…
