Specific Health Behavior Analysis

After describing a specific health behavior I’d like to change in part one, this essay will describe how successful I was in implementing a healthier lifestyle. My previous essay described how I wanted to change my exercising habits, and the effect of not exercising has on my physical and mental health. Now that I have had one week to adjust to a more rigorous exercise schedule, I will reports on my result. In the following, I will list the frequency of this behavior for week two, as in week one I had yet to apply my new schedule. Also, I will talk about what strategies I used to help me change and overcome the obstacles I discussed in the previous essay, and whether or not they have been successful. Since I did not work Monday or Tuesday, most of my day was open to exercise. For these two days I used the “buddy system” that we learned about in the improving exercise and adherence Spark. On Monday, my roommate and I went to Possum Creek Skate Park for a total of 4 hours. Of those four hours, I would say we skate boarded for at least three. Tuesday was the same; however, we did not get to skateboard as long since the whether was not permitting. Of these two days, I feel like I got the right amount of exercise to help with mental and physical stress. Following this, I worked Wednesday – Friday, which did not allow me to exercise with my roommate, however, I was able to run, shoot my bow and arrow at Bear Archery, and did some push ups and sits (probably not enough). As I mentioned in my previous essay, I wanted my exercise to be more focused around sports, however, these types of exercises are second best. On Saturday, I did not have work, and was also unable to properly exercise, as I spent the day floating down Ginni Springs, I cannot complain. I guess I did get to swim a little, but certainly not enough to count as towards my exercise goal. My last day, Sunday, was a double shift, so I spent my three hours of down time running 2.5 miles. I often felt too tired from work, and would come home and lounge around the house. To overcome this obstacle, I made a calendar with all my work days, and hours I would spent on my classes for that week. Following this, I would add times where I could potentially exercise. This helped me with using the buddy system, as I was able to give my roommate specific times where we could skateboard. It also made me feel more obligated to exercise, as I was more aware of my schedule for the entire week. Another strategy I used to help motivate me to work out, was the purchasing of a scale. Every morning I step on the scale to check my weight ( I lost over 5 pounds this week), this helps me see my progress, and motivated me to continue to exercise. Would I consider these strategies to be successful? Yes, I believe they have been more successful, as they have helped me attain my goal of a better exercise routine. On a side not, my new exercise habits have indirectly affected my eating habits, as I have been buying healthier food after working
