Congratulations in your coming soon graduation! I am also pursuing my MA in Human Services / Counseling and will complete in October 16 – if I can handle taking two classes together! I really enjoy your post. I like your sentence that says “it is important that we first enter their world before gaining the privilege of inviting them into our own”. I agree with you that practicum is the beginning of a life of service that will benefit those who need help the most. Practicum is important because practicum is the first step to becoming a licensed counselor and the first step to living a life of service to others. The counseling practicum fosters the synthesis of academic learning with practical, hands-on experience. The practicum also provides the student with preparation for further training in professional counseling. Practicum is a time for application of the attitudes, learning, and skills that the student has acquired in his or her classroom experience.…

As the school counselor, it would be necessary to support all students within the school. The counselor would first meet with the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) students in order understand their perspective and hardships that they face in the school community. I would continue to work with them in group sessions and individual sessions as needed to support an open dialogue and increase individual coping skills. In addition, I would support them by advocating for them and empowering them to support change within the school. Further, to work on making sure they do not continue to be oppressed or discriminated against within the school, the counselor would reach out to the principal and teachers to educate them about GLBT students…

Career Research Essay I have chosen to research the career of Academic Advising and Career Counseling for this essay. The reason I chose this particular career, is because I believe it would be a highly rewarding occupation, and it would give me a great amount of satisfaction to make a difference in people's lives by guiding them through the process of acquiring a higher education, while determining their aptitudes and personality traits in order to ascertain the career that is best suited for them. In the past I have also considered a career in Human Resources Management, I think it is very closely related to Academic Advising and Career Counseling in that it involves the discovery of human interests and aptitudes in order to find the best position for that person within a company or organization. I am extremely interested in human development, whether it is in the context of higher education or job placement and recruitment.…
