Interview with Mrs. Evans
Interviewing Mrs. Evans, the special education teacher, was the one I was excited about most. I was really interested to see why she picked her career. When coming up with questions, I was not sure exactly what I wanted to ask. I tried to ask a question about something we have not learned in class. We have learned a lot about how we should accommodate these students, but I curious to see what she does when she works with her self-contained classroom. I found out in the interview that teaching was not actually her career goal. She started as lateral entry, but she soon grew a passion for the students and her job. So, she got certified and began teaching full time. I asked her about the strategies she used in her classroom

The biggest surprise during the interview was to find out that Deborah still faces struggles with asking others for help. Many times when people are higher up in a company they are glad to delegate their work to other employees. I felt helpful in the fact that I was able to use information that we were taught in lab and class to somewhat flip the switch and guide her. I reminded her that it is not showing weakness to ask others for help, something I also have to remind myself sometimes. Another surprise is that she still faces weaknesses with her communication skills regardless of her age and work/life experience.…

After watching the video a few times I was able to observe three communication skills that I performed in the interview, being: analyzing, advising, and eye-contact. The Pass program took students who struggled in a certain subject or subjects and allowed them extra time after school to get help. My part in the Pass program was to help explain the work they struggled with or teach them a game that had to do with the subject they struggled in.…
