Lacy Elementary school is a public urban school k-6 that has a capacity of 500 students, but is serving 650 students. The school 's capacity is at 130% which is well over the desired amount of students to be able to serve efficiently with the limited resources provided.. Most all of the students qualify for a federal lunch and breakfast program. According to the analysis, recent rezoning projects have caused new neighboring students to be bused to and enrolled in the school. During my special situations analysis, I intend to provide evidence as to the negative effects of overcrowded schools and strategies we can use to alleviate some of the issues that arise. The cafeteria is furnished with fold-up tables with with about 300 attached seats available. During breakfast, most students enter the building through an exterior cafeteria door, while the remaining students (about 50-75) enter the school through the front doors and proceed directly to the cafeteria. The mornings provide for a more fluid and peaceful setting as students come in and find a seat and are quiet followed by throwing all of their trash away. Lunch is more crowded and serves 325 students in each lunch period therefore creating a logistical nightmare. There are two lunch periods (11:15 a.m.-noon, and noon-12:45 p.m.). Extra chairs are brought in during lunch. After students are escorted to lunch by their classroom teacher, students scramble and take physical action to find seats. Lunch lines are very long for students and students in the back can expect to wait up to 20 minutes to receive lunch. Students tend to wander from table to table not staying in their seats. Only two students are allowed to leave the cafeteria to use the restroom at a time. Before the bell rings, students line up at the door. Supervisors then open and release the students. Upon exiting, all students leave through one door ultimately creating traffic
