Special Population Interview Report

When asking the people around me this question, there were very mixed answers. My dad was the first person I asked, and his answer was quite inappropriate. In short, he said that this population is overrun by donut sellers (Asians), border jumpers (Mexicans), N-words (African Americans), and the good people (whites). My mom was more appropriate, stating that there is most likely a very close race in the population, but that a lot of people were mostly white. The last person I asked was my grandma, who lives in the Mexican barrio of Fort Worth, Texas. She said that she believed that there were many Hispanics in the world, especially hers. She said that she sees more Hispanics and black people simply because of where she lives. According to …show more content…
There is zero percent of the population that is Hawaiian or Islander. There is three point two percent that claims to be biracial. Eight point five percent of the population is Hispanic. It is clear in my city that the majority of people here are white, but as I dug deeper into the census, I found some really interesting percentages. I found out that in Fort Worth, Texas there is more of a majority of white people with sixty-five point two percent, but Hispanics take a close second with thirty-four point one percent. It's amazing how in a span of only eighteen and a half miles the population percentages can be that different. As I was interviewing people as to what they believed the majority is, I think there were many reasons why they exaggerated so much. I think that some people, like my dad, see so much about criminals on the news being African American that he is biased and believes they are overrunning the community. My mom loves to see the best in everyone but she only has one friend that is a different race than her, so she begins to think most people are white. My grandma exaggerates the population because she lives in the thick of a prominently Hispanic and African American community, so she is constantly surrounded by people of those

Introduction Approximately sixteen percent of the United States population is made up of Hispanic (also referred to as “Latino”) individuals. The term “Hispanic” refers to an individual whose nation of origin is Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, or Spanish-speaking countries of Central America or South America (Lowdermilk, Perry, Cashion, Alden, Olchansky, 2016, p. 104). Additionally, Hispanics accounted for about 26.3% of births that took place in the United States in 2012 (Cohn, Livingston, & Passel). With the 2020 census approaching, a lot of research has gone into making sure the data received will be as accurate as possible. One of the main concerns is the misrepresentation of members with origins in different Spanish speaking countries. The problem is seen clearly seen in the numbers, according the 2010 census, when prompted about race identification, 37% of Latinos selected “some other race”. This means that at least 19 million people are being misrepresented, but why are so many people conflicted? The U.S. Census Bureau defines race as the social group a person identifies with, these include: White, Black, Asian, Native American, Pacific Islander, or Other.…

Families exist in a larger complex made up of a community of kinship network and friends that make up their beliefs and values practices that are defined within the family (lynch 43). These beliefs and values are based on culture, which is comprised of the different languages spoken, as behaviors that influence each individual’s way of thinking, feeling, and interacting (28).
