In SOCAFRICA, the current operations section is the nucleus and the location of the most vital functions. Therefore, the pivotal talent pool of the Special Operations Command-Africa is the Operations Directorate.
Staffing Requirements
The manpower requirement of the section consists of a representative from each of the headquarters directorates, subcomponents, and nongovernmental agencies operating in our area of responsibility. It also requires additional personnel from the operations directorate to complete the team. In order for the current operations directorate to perform at an optimal level, 24 service members are required. The section is currently staffed at 71% of its validated personnel requirement.

Talent management is the goal-oriented and integrated process of planning, recruiting, developing, managing and compensating employees throughout the organization (Dressler, Human Resource Management (13th Edition), 2013). Shifts can be reduced to eight-hour increments, and individuals with specific skills can be assigned peak times. It also allows emergencies to be absorbed without making an individual a safety hazard to himself and others.
Also, an internal professional development training program will need to be established. It will consist of an outreach as well as an in-house requirement. The outreach prerequisites would include learning about the command areas of responsibility, command objectives, and strategic partnerships. This training will be required to complete before arriving at the command. The in-house requisites will be internal business protocols, followed by a performance assessment. This method complements the person/ organization selection
