Special Olympics
The name of the website I am reviewing is Special Olympics. The intent of the site is to inform people on what the Special Olympics is, what they do and how you can get involved. The target audience that this website is focusing on is, people that want to become and athlete, become a volunteer, a coach, or people that want to know where the Special Olympics events are. There is also an opportunity to donate to the Special Olympics foundation if someone was looking to support the program. At the top of the site, there are tabs with drop down boxes with links to other information about the Special Olympics. There is also slideshow of pictures at the top of the page showing different events of the Special Olympics and giving a

My most rewarding experience was coaching the Strathcona County Special Olympics Soccer "A" team to a 2nd place finish. The SCSO organization allows children, adolescents, and young adults with mental disabilities to partake in sports. Personally, I have always been an advocate for everyone to have an opportunity to be involved in sport. Therefore, I decided I could use my soccer knowledge to make the players' experience enjoyable.…

This report gives insight into the many issues with the Brazos Church Pantry website that were found through the usability study. At the beginning of this study my colleagues and I sat down and looked at the website and found a few issues with the website just . Later on we conducted a usability test where we had several students from Texas A&M sit down and look at the website while answering open-ended questions and got their opinion of the website. We later collected the data from the test and came up with what we believed were the most important issues the website has and provided recommendations for it. First was the functional issue, such as, images on the home page, links not working and search tools.…

Now that they have established that they know a lot about their organization and its needs the website must also inform the readers about their organization. They do this by providing a lot of information about what they do at the clinic, volunteering opportunities, and current events. A good example of this is the section of the website that talks about volunteer positions; in this section there are detailed descriptions of what each position must do and the qualifications individuals must have in order to volunteer in that position. (Get Involved) The clinic uses ethos in its website as its main way of informing the public about their work and recruiting new volunteers and people to donate.…

Many factors were vital influences upon the modern Olympic Games movement from 1892 to 2002. Political interests in the late 20th century were one such factor that shaped this movement. While the Olympics were originally intended to bring together the international community (which was the reason that Pierre de Coubertin wished to reinstate the games from ancient times), but they were also responsible for sparking intense competition between Olympians and their supporting countries as they strived to come out on top and flaunt their country’s power and fertility. Secondly, the Olympics also opened up an opportunity for economic gain and opulence. Host countries and companies that advertised in the games were given a chance to obtain financial…

    Anaphylaxis Journal Entry

This week’s journal entry serves the purpose of analyzing the Mylan healthcare’s website on anaphylaxis, and compare it with best practices for usability, accessibility, credibility, and consistency, as I would if I were a member of a communications department at Mylan healthcare. The web is an important medium of communication as it combines all types of other communication which came before it (Lester, 2012). As other forms of media, the web can also be a valuable resource for information and change, but the effectiveness and success of a website may hinder upon the audience’s perspective of the website. First and foremost a website has to grasp the audience’s attention, and provide content which is interesting, applicable, and befitting for the targeted audience. The Mylan Healthcare Anaphylaxis website’s intent is to bring about awareness of anaphylaxis, and…

When I first heard this year’s theme, “Standing Up in History,” the first thing that came to mind was the Holocaust and WWll. Remembering a book I had read a few years back titled “The Boy Who Dared” by Susan Bartoletti about Helmuth Hübene, the youngest person to be sentenced to death by the Nazi Regime, I immediately began to research other people and groups who stood up against Hitler. Soon after that, I stumbled across Sophie Scholl, a young woman in a non-violent resistance group, and began to investigate her and the group called “The White Rose” (german translation: die Weiße Rose) who between the points of summer 1942 to February 1943 wrote and published 6 leaflets about the wrongness of the Nazis. By this point, inspired and immediately…

In the mural "Going to The Olympics" by Frank Romero, he placed many symbols in is mural in a specific place. The symbols hat i saw are the hearts, the iron, the blimp, two guys fighting, a horse, a portrait, palm trees, and also cars. The hearts may symbolize the love for LA, the two guys fighting probably symbolizes the games that would be in the Olympics. Also the cars have a certain color in a certain order, they have the colors of the Olympic logo and are in the exact order. In my opinion the way Romero used the choice of colors and shapes to create the mood for this picture of Los Angeles was unique.…

When I was in Sixth grade, I was a part of the interscholastic academic pentathlon. In this competition we had trivia questions and both team and solo work. I remember we would have study groups and random sessions with the coaches to study together and to get used to what we were really in for. We met every Wednesday after school to study, we used tests and questions from past years to get the best feel for what we were going into so we wouldn’t go into the competition and be blindsided by everyone who was actually prepared and took the time to be ready when the big day came. I used the tools the school gave me like guided access to the library and computers including textbooks and websites that aren’t traditionally introduced to my grade…

The first website is U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (https://www.va.gov/VETDATA/docs/SurveysAndStudies/VETPOP.pdf) and the second Centers for Disease control and prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm ) to identify how each website shows their information, what audience they attract and to see the difference in style and context. The party that I chose to evaluate was the Illinois Green Party. I chose to evaluate this website because I wanted to see how a 3rd party would match up to the Democratic and Republican pages. At first glance, the page does seem to be a little outdated, however it was much better than I anticipated. Because the Green Party is a lesser known party, I expected a late 90s themed website that was hard to navigate. On the homepage there were links for people to get involved with the party, as well as places to donate.…

Webpage Comparison of Lake Land College and Parkland College People always say “the first impression is everything”. This is true when it comes to the first impression colleges make on their students as well. The first impression every college has on its students is more than likely what the student sees on the college’s webpage. With that being said, every college should want its webpage to outshine all of its competitor’s webpages, so the students can have a good impression of what the college is like. After comparing Lake Land College and Parkland College’s webpage, it is found that Lake Land College’s webpage, for the most part, is better than Parkland College’s webpage.…
