Special Olympics Critique

I watched the ''Making a Difference Through the Special Olympics'' video. To me the purpose of the speech was to influence and persuade others to get involved and to become a volunteer for the Special Olympics. I believe the speaker was very effective in this speech. She was organized and new the information she was specking about. In the introduction she gave an amazing story about the Seattle Special Olympics and how every athlete involved wasn’t there for national attention, but instead ''the opportunity to flourish under the glow of their own spotlight.'' The introduction was very effective of drawing the audience in. The speaker made it to where you want to get involved by making this matter more personable by asking you to image that

Out-of-Class Speech Critique For my out of class speech critique, I went to listen to Josh Birnbaum talk about his experiences as photographer for Illinois’ wheelchair basketball team. In his speech, he talked about the struggles that the team faced on the way to reaching their goal of winning a college national championship. Furthermore, Josh documented the lives of the players and showed the audience the struggles they faced every day, but showed us how each of them overcame the obstacles. Additionally, he talked about the life long relationships he made with the player by going out with them and practically being a member of the team.…

Many factors were vital influences upon the modern Olympic Games movement from 1892 to 2002. Political interests in the late 20th century were one such factor that shaped this movement. While the Olympics were originally intended to bring together the international community (which was the reason that Pierre de Coubertin wished to reinstate the games from ancient times), but they were also responsible for sparking intense competition between Olympians and their supporting countries as they strived to come out on top and flaunt their country’s power and fertility. Secondly, the Olympics also opened up an opportunity for economic gain and opulence. Host countries and companies that advertised in the games were given a chance to obtain financial…

The scenario I chose to do my speech on is the Drone Regulation. My thesis I decided to use is, “Drones should be legalized in the United States.” This topic I showed the most interest in, and I believe that I have a good thesis statement. One concept from Rothwell in Chapter 15 is that it states, “Highlighting similarities in positions, values, and attitudes also encourages identification (451).” My thesis will show similarity between some people and they will agree with me.…

In the painting "Going to the Olympics" by Frank Romero, you can see how Romero expressed L.A.'s love for their cars by showing hearts over the cars, you can also tell how he uses vibrant colors instead of dull colors. You also see that he painted palm tress and in L.A everywhere you go you are more likely to see palm tress, also in the background you see mountains and we are mostly surrounded by mountains here. In the painting you see 5 objects in the sky above the palm trees, you see things like the goodyear blimp, a horse to signify horse racing, two people wrestling, a stamp, and an iron. I get the meaning of most of theses symbols in the painting but the one symbol i don't get is the iron. I think Romero might think that people who live…

I think that the Winter Olympic commerical did a better job of promoting the Olympics and did try to make everyone watch the games. Compared to the other two commercial this ad had deeper messages like to work hard if you want to achieve somthing and never give up. I felt that it captured how any one can achieve greatness by training and pushing yourself which is shown in small clips. It promoted no gender bias and that important because doing events that seem “girly” doesn’t make any man not masculine and this relates to women as well. Another thing that made this ad a successful one is that it used all types of people that varied in ages and ethnicites.…

The Sochi Olympics were fraught with controversies and negative press to a grand extent. However, through the triumphs of the games athletes, Russia was able to attain substantial political gains and recognition. For example, Russia was the top-performing nation with 11 gold medals and a total of 29 medals respectively. By winning the majority of medals, Russia was able to gain politically by demonstrating to the Russian people and the world the strength and tenacity of its athletics. Surprisingly, many of the gold-winning Russian competitors were immigrants.…

The modern Olympics was also progressively becoming shaped by economic interests as shown by documents 5, 7, and 9. The Olympics offered the prospect of great economic prosperity and commercial gain to companies that sponsored them and to countries that hosted them. The mayor of Tokyo, Ryotaro Azuma, explains in document 5 that the Olympic Games of 1964, which Japan hosted, helped the country recover economically from their defeat in World War II and eventually grow as a world trade power. This was beneficial to international trade and encouraged other countries that upon seeing Japan’s gain from playing host to the Olympics may have desired a similar rise in trade and economic influence. The Olympics were a means of improving a country’s economy…
