Wax is an easy and decently effective method of special effects makeup. You can create a homemade wax, or buy professionally made wax. Homemade wax can be achieved by combining petroleum jelly and flour. Petroleum jelly already acts as a waxy substance, and flour creates a solid, yet an easily maneuverable wax element. Nevertheless, if you keep this wax on the actor up to or around 24 hours, it dries out, cracking and not …show more content…
These materials are a good way to create special effects. The glue and toilet paper method can be achieved by adding white school glue to toilet paper and sculpting it in the desired shape, then allowing your piece to become solid and sturdy. Despite how this method sounds, toilet paper and glue do a decent job of looking realistic. Combined with glue, toilet paper keeps its shape, and is excellent for skin peeling, bone structure build, and much more. With the proper coloring and shading, you could have a very realistic appearance and a sturdy piece. Toilet paper and glue keeps it’s shape and stays on the actor for quite some time, and removal is simple; peel up the glue around the edges, and then the toilet paper …show more content…
Prosthetics can be achieved by creating a mold cast of sculpted clay. Sculpt the desired shape of your prosthesis in any type of oil-based clay (Sculpey and modeling clay are effective). Create a wall of clay around your sculpted clay piece to create a bowl-like shape. Mix up some plaster and pour it into your “bowl” of clay around your sculpted clay piece. After the drying process, tear off the clay wall and clean your plaster mold of any leftover clay. To achieve the prosthesis, mix up unflavored gelatine (glycerin, water, unflavored gelatine) and pop it in the microwave for none more than eight seconds; pour into your cast. After it is dry, pull out carefully, dusting with cornstarch or baby powder to keep from sticking to itself. (Casting your clay can also be achieved with plaster strips). Stick the prosthesis to the actor’s skin with glue adhesive or more gelatine. Considering that the prosthesis is made out of gelatine, you can always re-heat it in the microwave to melt it down again. Just make sure you clean the prosthesis of any makeup; this will cause the gelatine to possibly change its color. (don’t use hot water, this could possibly melt your
