(Hallahan, Kauffman, Viriginia, & Pullen, 2013) The first one would be collaborative consultation. In collaborative consultation the special education teacher gives advice to the general education teacher. I know from experience that the special education teachers are always the go to people for advice. The second method is the co-teaching method. Co-teaching is when the general education teacher and special educational teacher work together to teach the students. I believe on our campus we use co-teaching most of the time. We always have all the teachers lesson plans, and we work in activities …show more content…
These strategies work well with many students because they respond well to their peers. It is always easier dealing with special needs students if they are accepted by their peers. I have been fortunate that I have not had to deal with students being mean to our special needs students. If anything, they are eager and willing to help them succeed. This could be modification in assignments, accommodations and adaptations. Modifications in assignments is when you have to make the assignment easier or less stressful for the student. A modification example would be giving a student three answer choices instead of four on a test. An example of an accommodation would be to give a student a calculator on a math test. While reading “Using Collaboration, Co-Teaching, and Question Answer Relationships to Enhance Content Area Literacy” by Nicole Fenty, I had a chance to learn about some strategies that can be used while co-teaching with a Special Education teachers and a general education teacher. Collaboration is the key to success in a general education setting where there are students who have an IEP because the teachers need to be on the same page of what the students need to learn while Co-Teaching. It is important that each teacher shares the responsibility of teaching the students. This sharing of responsibility allows for teachers to become more knowledgeable in their subjects which, allows them to teach the areas they know the best. Being knowledgeable…

There are teachers and administrators alike who do not believe that much learning takes place in the special education classroom and that special needs students cannot possibly learn in a regular classroom. To address these concerns, school board administrators have to put in a lot of time and effort to implement a program that the staff and students are comfortable with. Teachers would also need some sort of training to better help them receive the special needs children into their classrooms. Teachers receiving special needs students in their classroom need to be included in the progress of the special needs students. This way, they can see how the student grows overtime in their classroom to get a better understanding of the impact an appropriate inclusion class can have on a special needs student.…
