Speaking And Listening Reflection

The first thing that comes to mind on what to improve is to model activities for students. This is something that can be easily overlooked, and as such it can affect students tremendously, as they face not only new content, but also being asked to use an ability that perhaps they have never learned before or that still need more guidance, and clarification on how to execute. Moreover, modeling also helps the students know what you are looking for, and serves as a reminder to yourself of what is it that you want them to do. The first thing to change for the Speaking and Listening lesson is to separate the Language, and Content objectives. The reason why this was so important to this lesson was because, I wanted students to write down little bits of information, so when I cold-call them, they would have something written down, and would not feel scared of being called. However, I did not take into consideration how those notes would look from the perspective of the students, or how much attention they were giving me while writing down notes. So, in this case modeling would have not only helped them, but it would have also facilitated explaining the whole lesson. The reason this would have made this lesson much easier to take in is, because if I had taken note taking into consideration, it would have reshaped my lesson to think not only on how to get them to have an open conversation, but facilitating students the information they need to engage in a classroom …show more content…

This is something that obvious, but that somehow keep failing to take more into consideration, when creating these lessons. However, I really hope to change the way I provide activities for students with my lessons in the

Richard & Lockhart (1994) suggests that the teacher should do something to engage the students what was evidenced in the observed class. The Educator opened the lesson asking two questions in Spanish “¿a quién le gustan los animales?” and “¿quién tiene animales en la casa?” what allow the students to activate their prior knowledge regarding the animals.…

During my lesson, I communicated verbally in a slow, clear, and loud manner, in order for all students to best understand me. I also had students repeat our targeted vocabulary words and student-friendly definitions aloud, in order for students, especially English Language Learners, to continue developing language skills and to maximize language development. Throughout my lesson, I made sure to monitor students’ facial expressions in order to determine if any student was confused. When teaching new content, I make sure to repeat myself and to ask students if clarification is needed. I also make sure that I have visuals to match the selected terms or topic in order to provide students with a more thorough understanding and to support my explanations.…

The inclusion of music in this lesson was a great treat for the students, the students would often ask to get to watch the music video about the number six again. There were two days during our unit where as a reward for completing all of their work the students got to watch the video a second time. I would consider finding a second video on this topic, if another well made video is available. In particular, I enjoyed seeing how much the students were enjoying the video and even getting to see a few students sing a long at times. Lastly, modeling how to complete certain activities to the students was essential to this group, especially during our small group activities and on the whole group activity during day five.…

The purpose of this paper is to summarize my findings from Project 2 of this course. To begin my work on Project 2, I completed a variety of personality assessments through the McGraw-Hill Connect website. Through these assessments, I was able to gain valuable insights about myself, my ability to work with others, and my experiences and needs in an organizational setting. In general, I learned that I should strive to be more extroverted and friendly with my co-workers in order to improve my organizational behavior. Specifically, I concluded that I should look for ways to improve my verbal communication and take more of a leadership role in my company.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

This time gave me an opportunity to undertake reflective listening through active listening which according to Rogers (1975) in his “client-centered” therapy argues that it encourages the client to share the information in more depth than if I was only asking directive questions. This enabled me to gain information when the client brought out the underlying issues including those that I had not thought about. The active listening also improved my relationship with the client since I was able to express acceptance by avoiding any expression of disagreement or judgement thus making him open up and also trust me as his couselor. This method also left me with enough time to explore and diagnose the issue thus noting the new ways of approach to the…

Teachers are one of the many important role models in their students’ lives. It is imperative to set an example and teach them different forms of communication. Effective communication does not only involve verbal and nonverbal communication, but also involves listening. As a teacher, we cannot always assume we know what our students are thinking, so we must ask questions and listen. Having students focus or track the speaker and raise their hands or pass a ball around to speak is a great way to improve listening…
