Anyone in this situation would have made the same decisions. One reason that Melinda did the right thing by calling the cops is because the party contained alcohol and Melinda was surrounded by people who were older than her and had less regard for rules.…

Best Friends I think what Laurie Halse Anderson is trying to say about best friends in Speak, is that your best friends won’t always be there for you and sometimes you have to fend for yourself. To begin with, every single one of Melinda’s friends hated her, and throughout the book she had to deal with Andy because of the party incident. Nobody asked her what was the problem, her friends weren't there for her when she was attacked. Even Melinda’s best friends hate her for calling the cops, and if her friends were there it would be different.…

Challenges are presented to everyone within their daily lives, each struggles does not compromise who a person fundamentally is. Rather, the actions taken whilst one undergoes adversity forms a person’s character. Through the use of the characters in, Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis shows the audience different forms of adversity, and different reactions to such. For example, Jenny Curran --the love interest of the main character-- has a life riddled with strife, and the ways she responds to problems gives the audience an insight into her weak identity. Jenny’s personality is always reflective of who she is with, she has no real identity, that is until she learns to face adversity finally making the right choices.…

In paragraph eight, Maxine has tried to speak in the American school, but the teacher frightened her by asking Maxine to speak louder. In my opinion, the teacher was somewhat a little insensitive, even though it is possible that the teacher was only asking her softly. Then she looked towards the other Chinese girls who sat quietly in the class and thought that she was meant to stay silent in the American school. I totally disagree with her way of thinking, because she abandoned speaking and didn’t try to do it anymore.…
