Behind closed doors Fear is a sign of respect. A step parent to a 14 year old girl has been accused of child abuse. Her actions were not acceptable to him. When he realized she was lying he spanked her with a belt, causing minor bruises. The step parent did not mean to cause any harm just a spank to make her regret lying. Although spanking is a discipline measure, there is several opinions and debates on corporal punishment. Even though people say that spanking is child abuse and can cause harm, spanking should not be referred as child abuse because it is a form of discipline, learning to respect others, and to be prepared for the real world.
There are many people against spanking because they say it is motivated by anger, focuses on the past and makes the child feel guilty. Although, with this statement they are correct, but that is why it should never be done with

Once your children have children of their own they will step into your shoes and see how necessary spanking truly is.

So it is clear that although many people say that spanking is child abuse and can cause harm, spanking should not be referred as child abuse for two main reasons. First, it is a form of discipline. But most importantly, spanking helps kids be prepared for their future.
Since the step parent spanked the 14 year old girl he has a high chance of serving eight to twelve years of jail time, which to me is not fair at all. In this case, the victim did not have any serious injuries. The bruises were temporary, not life threatening, and were not seeking medical attention (Brent). If the victim did not listen to the parent, the parent has every right to educate their kids with a form that will control them from misbehaving. Spanking does not cause any damage to a child if done

Spanking is not considered a form of abuse as long as the punishment is reasonable and does not cause injury. For me this is the hardest part of my job because as long as there are no bruises and the child isn’t scared of their parents there is no more I can do for that child. Sadly the State does not take into consideration the mental injury it may have on the children and what it might lead to.” You have two girls of your own, do you spank them? “No not anymore. Up until about 4 years ago my husband and I used spanking to discipline the girls.…

Jane was afraid of what would happen to her brothers and her mother if she told anybody. Although it is not a fear of Jane, some children who are abused are afraid to say anything because it is the only home they have ever known any other family and don’t want to be taken away from their family no matter how bad it is. To me this book shows how child abuse could be going on under our very nose and we possibly could miss it. Granted in this day and age we are more trained to look for it and DFS if not as prone to be scared off as in the book, but still unless the child feels comfortable speaking out sometimes it can be difficult to pin point. Today if DFS gets the smallest hint that there is child abuse going on then DFS will show up at a house with the police in tow all hours of the night.…

Parents discipline their children because they are the authority and they want that child to stop that behavior so they are not irritated anymore. This is not saying the best way in the long run is to spank a child there can be unforeseen consequences. Douglas states “over 90% of American parents spank pre-school children, at least on occasion”(14). It is important to understand that toddlers will do what they are not supposed to do often and it is not because they are bad. Young children do not fully understand or know what they are doing so spanking does not do much but hurt and confuse them.…

It’s always surprising to see when a case of sexual harassment comes out into the public because we would think by now males would know not to do it and it’s illegal. It’s also easy to understand when someone doesn’t want to do something. Males need to start to understand that sexually touching women without their consent is not right and that when someone says no that mean no and that they need to stop doing whatever they were doing. Which for some reason males have a hard time understanding what no is. We need to teach our kids about this in a young age as well as to not make boys so aggressive and make girls feel like they are fragile.…

Back in the 1900s and even the early 2000s spanking was a common practice among parents, but now? Now, parents who have the courage to spank their kids are a dying breed who are almost extinct. Parents should spank their children because, kids who are not spanked are usually undisciplined, and soft people, most kids also end up spoiled and cocky, and never learn to respect authority. If a parent's does not spank their child they are making them soft and passive. Parents today think that being soft and passive is the only way to live.…

No child deserves to be punished in such a crucial way. If a child is being naughty and the parent needs to punish them, then they can spank the children, but there is no reason that a parent should punish their kid in such a severe way that they bruise, bleed, and are scared of their parents and never want to do anything because they are scared of getting hit again. If someone sees this happening to a child, they need to help the child by turning the parents in and getting them help so that when they have children, it will not start the…
