Spanking Children Debate

There are a lot of debates on spanking children. Spanking can either be considered good or bad. When a child is not listening or acting out, spanking would be a good thing. A couple swats on the bottom will not hurt them. Swatting the child on the bottom will get their attention. The parent then should explain to the child why they were the spanking. When spanking becomes abuse is when a parent is spanking a child out of anger. It will also be considered abuse when you use an object to spank a child. Using an object, the parent will not know how hard they are truly spanking the child and then that can lead to bruises and marks. In general, spanking should just teach the child what he/she did wrong. For example, if the child is throwing a fit at home because they did not get what they wanted and the parent keeps telling them firmly that it is not okay to act like that, the child doesn’t stop then giving them a spank will get their attention. When the child’s attention is finally given, explain to them that their behavior was not appropriate. Whenever a parent is spanking out of anger and or not explaining to the child why they are in trouble it can be confusing to them, or when a parent goes right into spanking a child before warning and giving them a chance to change their behavior. Marks should never be left on a child, and the spanking should never exceed the crime. There are other ways of discipline i.e. grounding, cleaning, etc. Personally, I think spanking a child for bad behavior or disrespect is allowed, but in a responsible adult manner. There are a lot of instances where parents are excessive and get carried away, leading into a child abused household.
