The trick was that students could take the test as many times as they want, but the teacher said no student had ever passed the first time. As soon as I heard that, I took up the challenge. There’s a first time for everything I thought. At my friends locker, I discussed the possibility of passing it the first time. “Didn’t you hear Ms. Cooper?” He said. “No one has passed it the first time. Reading Comprehension Questions Part 1: Spanish Encounters How does Columbus portray the people he encounters in this letter? When Columbus reaches the Island of Juana, he states “I could not have speech because they all fled immediately” (pg. 35). This quote illustrates how the natives were scared to meet the Americans; perhaps the natives did not want to be taken as property so they ran away. In addition, since there was no interaction (because the Natives were timid and scared) , it was easy for Columbus to take over their land.…

On September 15, I went and took part in el Grito ceremony held at the Miller Outdoor Theater to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day. I did not know what was el Grito, so I went to that event with an open mind. The show came after a long speech in both Spanish and English about the Mexican community in Houston and the impact of Harvey on the community. I really enjoy the sense of community that I experienced during that event. People came as a family or with a group of friends.…

The Colombian flag identifies my heritage. While people eat their eggs and pancakes on sunday mornings, I’ll gladly take my Arrepa con Queso and proudly say I’m a Colombian American. My parents came to the United States in the year of 1978 and had me 10 years later. My parents always grew up on farms and strict family households, where they worked and learned to be independent at 6 years old. They brought their traditions from Colombia to Philadelphia and raised me with their tradition.…

This mistake that I’m writing about took a rather long time to learn that it was a mistake. Ever since I was a child my parents always pushed for me to learn Spanish. Probably due to the fact that my family is Spanish and that half of my relatives speak Spanish only. I never got into learning Spanish, and well they couldn’t blame me, I only started speaking English when I was six. Before that I was using basic sign language which I have now forgotten.…

Writing Sample Without a doubt in my mind the best class I have taken in the past two years of my academia was my high school Spanish class. I developed a very good relationship with my instructor Sr. K, that was probably the biggest reason it was my favorite class; However, the way his class was stuctured and how he taught contributed it to being my favorite class in the last two years. We would always start the day with a class plan so everyone would know what was going to take place in class and the next. Sr. k was very detailed in lessons…

Requiem for a Spanish Peasant is Ramon J. Sender’s famous book. The setting of the book is an unknown village, during the Spanish Civil War. The book narrates the story of Paco El del Molino, a peasant who was killed for no reason, but his side in politics. Every Spaniard was expected to choose a side between the Republicans, and the Nationalist, and since the nationalist were the ruling party in that unnamed village, they chose to execute those who were not on their side. The ongoing violence ruins the peace between Spanish community and destroys the church’s reputation.…

I am confident that I can provide all students with a native knowledge of Spanish and English, as I finished my high school education in the Dominican Republic, and performed all my college education in Florida and New York. In addition, after experiencing both cultures and the academic world of both countries, I am assured and willing to provide New York City students with a high quality instruction, while encouraging them, and helping them to enjoy learning. Some of the skills my experience allowed me to acquire are the correct grammar, and wording of essays either in English or Spanish, as I was required to perform essays in both countries. Furthermore, as I have experience of fifteen years being a guitarist, I will utilize my musical knowledge…
