Some examples of just the stereotypical notions for Catholic people in general are they are rigid in their ritualistic ceremonies of incense and statues; they pray and worship Mary; the mother of Jesus, they are not saved in a sense of how we believe, the Pope is who Catholics obey, they were a crucifix as a symbol for Jesus being back on the cross; now to provide examples of those persons who only speak Spanish: these people are lazy, uneducated, illegal, criminals, welfare recipients or impoverished, and that only naming a few. Throughout my childhood, into early adulthood my upbringing in the Protestant faith along with the many different communities in which I was raised influenced without a doubt stereotypical views mostly regarding the religious aspect of the Catholic faith and that even though I try to remember each person has the right to chose their own religion or follow their own religious beliefs sometimes the ideas I was raised to believe creep from the subconscious, regarding Spanish-speaking individuals however no there was not this judgment of people when I grew up, and this was influenced due to being raise in a military community around different ethnicities, the fact that you speak another language different from mine or that you are from another country does not weigh on me. They place religion very high in their lives as there was not an open seat once the Priest and other speakers began the sermon, through their religious beliefs come the interactions socially and with family; family being as important as their religion, and then traditions of family and religion are mirrored in everything they do. Most of your elder family members are the ones who are trying to keep the traditions of the heritage alive, teaching the younger children the native language and customs this is to prevent the lose of their own heritage as the begin to immerse into a new culture. It is important that their religion and family traditions and values are not lost to the new environment so with keeping with their traditions and customs church and family remain
