Spanish Dancer Essay

The painting that I have chosen is the John Singer Sargent’s Spanish Dancer . It consists of very important elements, the principles and content of the piece that can tell the story. The most important factor is the fundamental breakdown of the piece which would be the elements of this piece. Initially, the elements in this visual art piece be the diagonal lines, it gives a feeling of movement or a sense of direction pulling with or from gravity. The colors composed of this painting are based on chiaroscuro, a style used during the Renaissance which is the strong contrasts of dark and light colors with a limited color palette. When it comes to the texture of the piece, the skirt is shown as a thin and hard material with no effortless flow, the ends of the shawl are feathered and on the body of it you can see the stitched workmanship. For the mass, the shadows play a part in showing the 3 dimensional woman and what she is wearing. Just as important as these elements, the principles play a dramatic role in the piece. The principles of art are the building blocks to creating a piece such as this. The unity in this piece gives a completeness or harmonious feeling. The expression shown through her movement is that she wants to put everything into it as if this is her life. Given the realism it attaches us as one person to another to what she is doing. Also, based on everything, in this piece the aesthetic category is imitation judged based on the fact it looks like real life. Even though it can fit in emotionalism, imitational is the main category by the appearance and imitating reality. This all placed a key role into what aesthetic category Sargent’s painting
