They were separated into groups, the repartimientos and the encomiendos. The two groups were very different when it came to approach and lifestyles but, were both equally marginalized by Colombus and his followers. Both groups were forced into slavery and many died from illness and being overworked with labor that they had never really been accustomed to. In my opinion the enslavement of the indigenous people was fueled by economics, but wasn’t well thought out. The Europeans described them as savages, to say the least. The Indians were marginalized because of there cultural practices. They were forced to compromise many of there beliefs to come to the standard of the Europeans. They were often labeled with many titles; dumb, humble, cannibals, ect. All of the things stated had a common reason for why they weren’t true. They were all flawed statements because of the simple fact that the colonizers didn’t speak the same language as the Indians so every thing was based off of perception. You can never really know/understand something if you don’t get the first hand account.
In Cuba they practically monopolized an industry and showed that their culture can translate into economics.
