W. (2009). A lift of the eyebrows can mean several things depending on the scenario. Nonverbal communication is when Flor is shown by instruction on how to run the household including not to throw the ball in the house to the family dog. Through these hand gestures, Flor is able to understand what is expected of her. Yet at the same time, nonverbal communication is shown where Flor’s family comes together in celebration of her grandmother’s visit, and while she is busy preparing her home and food does not understand that Deborah is manipulating her daughter into staying over at her house. The faux pas in this movie is when Flor confronts not only Deborah and her manipulation, but her own daughter Christina. She has informed her daughter that she will no longer be attending a prestigious school, that she has quit her job and that she will be coming back to earth. Christina has a melt down there on the street, yelling and screaming at her mom that “This ruins my life! You've ruined everything. I will never forgive you.” Christina realizes that she has done the unthinkable, she humiliated her mother in public. It is in this scene, where any culture, would stand back and do what Flor does.
