Spacex Explosion Report

Improved Essays
Have you seen the news about the recent SpaceX explosion? On September 1st, 2016, the unmanned Falcon 9 rocket exploded on its launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Florida during fueling. The rocket was supposed to launch Saturday, carrying with it a satellite designed to provide internet coverage to remote villages in Africa. Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, hoped that the satellite would increase Facebook’s range. Unfortunately, his hopes have been dashed. It is not infrequent for similar things to happen in our lives. We may not have a rocket explode on a launch pad, but our plans often fail. Have you ever intended to call someone, but you forgot? What about getting a birthday card for someone you love? Sometimes these failed plans are more severe.

The human mind is capable of convincing itself of even the most bizzare facts as long as they are believed to be true, and in the case of fate, this is no different. If one is to perceive their future as predetermined, either for the worse or the better, they are already leading themselves to a decline in productivity, for the human mind ceases to strive for betterment once it knows that attempts to change are futile even if, in reality, they are not. However, when one is able to approach fate as an unwritten slate, they have an exponentially better chance of accomplishing their goals, for they have successfully torn down the mental barrier that fate has the capacity to build. Instead of approaching fate in an ultimate manner, we should focus on noticing the positive prospects that our fate has the ability to hold, and this minute change in our view of hope can mean…

“Luck is not chance- It’s Toil- Fortune’s expensive smile Is Earned” – Emily Dickinson I have chosen a relatively philosophical problem to discuss. We find a lot of people giving up on their pursuits and goals. As subtle as this may seem, if one thinks about it, just one person giving up on a single pursuit because the going got tough, can have an exponential amount of consequences.…

“Desire” was not only the title of the poem, but also what I initially felt towards the poem. I’ve never been like those people who automatically know the central idea the moment they read a poem, but I had that desire to identify a central message. Without even realizing it, I automatically began to read the poem scanning for a meaning, the central idea, something to grasp onto. Just like the bees, I found myself buzzing around searching for a meaning or as Billy Collins states in his poem, I was trying to “...torture a confession out of it” (Collins 14). Looking back, I realize how similar I am to the bees in this poem, like the bees, I wasn’t sure how to get to my destination.…

During my years in the Army, I always feared Sarin and the other nerve agents the most. The effects of sarin, tabun and soman, all part of the G-series of nerve agents and the other numerous V-series nerve agents are horrible. We learned the symptoms starting from the head and going down the body so we could recite them. Even the CDC lists them: headache, contracted pupils and watery eyes, runny nose, drooling, tightness of the chest, rapid breathing, nausea or vomiting, lose of bladder and bowels control, convulsions, and muscle twitching of the exposed area (CDC 2013). Just not a pleasant way to "go out".…

Robert Louis Stevenson said, “To travel hopefully is better than to arrive.” Many teenagers focus so much of their time on making their “perfect” futures. They want their dream houses, perfect family, and dream jobs. In reality, most of these teens will not end up with their perfect futures. This leads to disappointment and sometimes a feeling of failure.…

Many people struggle with the thought of failing, though failing is not the real thing you should be worried about, but rather the actions taken afterwards to improve your wrongs. Biologist Lewis Thomas describes this as being “ the very base of human thought, embedded there, feeding the structure like root nodules.” Without the mistake there is nothing to grow from and expand your knowledge on. If you were to get everything correct at all times there would be nothing to educate yourself with after the fact, making the reaction to be considered worthless. The beginning of mistakes is the beginning to a new solution that has not been discovered yet.…
