NASA launched Hubble in 1990, it was "named after Edwin P. Hubble, He was an astronomer" (Rosario). Hubble is a traveling telescope it traves around the Earth taking pictures of planets, stars, and galaxies. "It has seen stars being born and stars die, and it has seen galaxies that are trillions of miles away" (Dunbar). Furthermore, Hubble can see space better than telescopes on Earth can, it's a different kind of telescope than one would usually use, you don't look through the Hubble Telescope, it uses a high-tech camera that takes pictures then it uses radio waves to send the …show more content…
In January 2009, astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope had an opportunity to record Saturn when its rings were on edge, Because the orbits of "Saturn's major satellites were lined up in the ring plane, astronomers had a chance to catch a truly amazing display in space, they were able to see the bodies crossing the face of Saturn. A lineup like this only happens about every 15-years, and leading this line up was Titan, Saturn's giant moon it is larger than the planet Mercury" (Wong). The Hubble Space Telescope was there to record it all. Furthermore, the Hubble Telescope, was designed and built so it could be updated with new equipment, and over the past 25-years, five space shuttle missions have updated the telescope with new equipment. With all this in mind one would thank it would take a lot of power to run such a big telescope, but the Hubble Telescope receives its energy from the sun through two 25-foot solar panels, that's about 2800-watts of power, that's not that much when you think about it, on average the household coffee pot uses around 2200-watts of power to

The lens was only one-and-a-half inches in diameter while being attached to a simple wooden tube, such a simple invention gave birth to modern astronomy. This telescope was created by Johannes Hevelius in Danzig, this telescope hung by an enormous pole and undulated in the slightest gust of wind. Moving on to 1845 in Ireland, Lord Rosse completed construction of the first reflecting telescope, this invention is known as the “Leviathan of Parsonstown.”…

Exploring the Moon’s Extreme Environment The Moon is our closest cosmic neighbour, and humans have been exploring it’s surface since we first developed telescopes. Though it can be fun to explore, it is far away, very expensive to go there and it is a very hard place to survive at. Different countries have sent probes that intend to crash to the moon’s surface but capture some photos of the surface before the impact. This was the first way to get scientific information about the moon, and it happened during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Then in 1969, the US became the first country to send people to the moon.…

On October 15, 1997 the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The mission is a joint effort of NASA, the Italian Space Agency, and the European Space Agency. The objective of this space mission is to learn about Saturn’s internal structure, its magnetic fluctuations, and the mass of the rings and also to study the bright and dark surfaces of some of the moons and compare them to other moons within our solar system. The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft is “one of the largest, heaviest, and most complex interplanetary spacecraft ever built” (Cassini Spacecraft). With the sophistication of the space craft itself, will be able to send back greater amounts of information that helps gain more information…
