When logos is used, President Reagan is appealing to our logic. An example of when President Reagan uses logos in his speech is when he says “We 've grown used to the idea of space, and, perhaps we forget that we 've only just begun. We 're still pioneers. They, the members of the Challenger crew, were pioneers.” (Ronald Reagan) In saying this, President Reagan reminds the country that we are new to space exploration and those astronauts that died were some of the first astronauts ever. When kairos is used successfully, the speaker chooses the best time to say what it is they are going to say. President Ronald Reagan’s use of kairos makes his speech on the space shuttle tragedy even more effective. President Reagan gave his speech on the same day as the Challenger tragedy even though he was planned to give a report of the state of the Union on that night instead. By giving the tragedy address on the same day that the space shuttle Challenger tragedy happened, the speech was made even more effective because the tragedy had just happened and it was fresh in everyone’s minds. President Reagan was able to comfort the citizens of the United States of America and they families of the seven astronauts that lost their lives right after it happened. He was able to commemorate those seven astronauts on the day they lost their lives which touched people because he didn’t waste time getting a speech
