John F. Kennedy issued a challenge that led to discovery. The challenge was to have one man step foot on the moon in the next decade. Many of the flights failed due to many reasons. The first rocket ran out of fuel and burned in the atmosphere. The second rocket made it past the atmosphere. Apollo 8 was the first flight to orbit the moon. As a result, twelve astronauts walked on the moon.
The greatest minds on earth had to work together to make this mission a success. Scientist and technologist worked together to overcome the impossible. Many tests were run. Many failed and others succeeded. As a result of these missions, humans are able to leave earth’s orbit and discover other worlds.
