“On the other side of a mountain [was] another mountain,” said Lieutenant Colonel George Russell while describing the hardships in Korea. The division of Korea to this day has not been resolved but has simply been put down to an armistice. The overwhelming push for this war was the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. However, the results have caused tensions among the countries involved and there is no way to solve the problem now, without more problems popping up. The Korean War was caused by the race between the UNited States and Soviet Union over the topic of communism and capitalism, and as a result of this tension, the war between the Korea’s still continues and it is essentially impossible to fix the damage of the …show more content…
Korea being under the Japanese empire now was out for grabs. The Soviet Union and the United States decided to split Korea between themselves. However, they established a provisional government at first. For the cold war was in the air therefore there was no way to stop the prickling controversy between capitalism and communism. Since the 20th century first bloomed, Korea was under the possession of Japanese empire. In August 1945, the Korean peninsula was divided on the 38th parallel. By the end of the decade, the South had elected the highly educated, anti-communist Syngman Rhee and in the north communist dictator Kim Il Sung was elected and was promoted and financed by the Soviet Union. Border skirmishes were bound to occur for one cannot keep a communist and a anti-communist reign right next to each other and not expect bad blood. The Soviet Union and the United States were the preeminent world powers at the time of the Cold War. Ergo, they unpretentiously felt the utter need to world domination. However, their concept of world domination differed. The United States wanted to be a magisterial figure, almost the authoritative figure to clinch the dispute of capitalism and communism and convert the world to a capitalist “utopia”. On the other hand, however kindred, the Soviet Union simply wanted to spread communism to everyone. However, Stalin wanted there to be only one type of communism. At the time, everyone had their own version of communism. Stalin wanted everyone to unify under communism and create only one type of communism and he wanted to be the “grandpa” to all these communist countries. He wanted them to depend on Stalin.
