This was new, for most of Europe’s history it had always been a composition of many countries coming together to from one alliance to be another, but a new giant came, that was not even from Europe itself but Russian. More and more republics left the Soviet Union, the leaders themselves called it a civilized union in which it allowed a relatively peaceful separation and no military force was used. Once the formidable Soviet Union was dissolved the new Russian took over, reducing drastically the military and restructuring itself left millions without jobs, leading to a new depression, worse than the US or Europe had experience, for it lead to a recession that will take years to recover.
