Why Southwest

Hospitality, compassion, and quality are all words that come to mind when I think of Southwest Airlines. Travel is something that I have been fortunate enough to experience throughout my life, domestically and internationally. Whenever I have the opportunity to take Southwest Airlines, I know I am in good hands. It’s that kind of trust that makes any travel experience more than just getting from point A to B. What is unique about Southwest, is that that level of compassion and care can be seen not only through the service, but also the people that make up and fly Southwest. I have been very lucky to be invited to take part in this interview process and it has sparked a desire in me to learn more about the company and hopefully become a working piece in the excellence that is Southwest Airlines.

I’ve been dancing since the age of three and was drawn to the idea of joining the university’s Bollywood Fusion team not only as a way to keep dancing, but as a way to immerse myself in a new challenge focusing on styles I’ve never danced before. What I didn't realize upon getting accepted was that this team would not only challenge me as a dancer, but also as a person as I joined a new community and culture. In this essay Christopher Elliott claims that people ought to reward the companies of the travel industry who would be considered heroes with our business, otherwise the villains will win. Christopher's argument is based on the claim of value. He gives two similar instances where travelers had serious illnesses and while Southwest gave a full refund to the customer, it took veterans groups intervening in order for the company to reluctantly refund the ticket. The CEO even made a point to say that he would personally pay for the refund to show that this refund would probably not happen again. Another example are the large amount of fees that Spirit has, though they claim that these extras are optional along with having sub-par customer service.…

In the past, I have taken several different airlines. Some good, some bad, however the majority of my experience has been average. In early 2017, United Airlines got caught having police officers physically forcing a man off of a flight. With more and more details being discovered, the story unfolded of what happened on that plane. Apparently, United had overbooked the flight, promising one of their “higher-ups” a seat on this particular flight.…

And said a different way, we don 't exist in Southwest Airlines to make sure that each one of us is happy. We 're here and our purpose is to serve our Customers, but I would just want to qualify that by saying that the way I think about it, as a leader for Southwest Airlines is, I think of you all as a Customer also. And, of course, Colleen for years used the phrase internal customers so none of that has changed. The Employees come first so that we can take very good care of our Customers. We take real good care of our Customers and we have a good business then everything else is going to take care of itself and that has absolutely not…

Many companies have experienced service issues along the road of success at one time or another. A blueprint is a very useful tool, "not only for operations managers but also for the marketing managers"(Hoffman & Bateson, 2011). Sometimes no matter how well of a system a business may have the company must also prepare for service issues and quality assurance. If American Airline (A.A.)s, like many other business did not have service issues they would not have found what needs approval with in the company. American airlines, have several service issues such as; conflict at the Chicago airport, the CEO of American Airlines face internal struggles and then losing another top executive to a competitor's airline.…

In this memo, I will discuss the analysis and my recommendations about the Southwest Airlines case. Southwest was founded by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher in Dallas in 1966. The business core is to provide low-fare and short-haul flight service to their customers through low cost operation. By consistently focusing on this core strategy, Southwest has grown to become one of the largest airlines in the United States, competing with other carriers including the Big Three – Delta, United and American Airlines. Based on my analysis of the case, I have discovered that one of the biggest problems facing Southwest is the dilemma whether they should maintain their focus on short-haul flight or they should alter their strategy for more profit opportunities.…
