Chapter 48-51 were beautiful!! I love the chemistry between Scarlett and Rhett since it's so magnificent and I can feel all their emotions (mostly Rhett). In addition, Rhett is the perfect man for Scarlett as in shown in chapter 48 by Scarlett realizing that Rhett sometimes treat her as his queen while other times, he tease her or mock her which I find it adorable. In chapter 49, the Old Southern women treated Scarlett as garbage and accusing her for many things such killing Frank and having an affair with Rhett when Scarlett was married. The Old Southern society is symbol because it symbolized that Scarlett is moving on with her life and she's staying with Rhett; he represent New Southern society.…

This belief, along with the southern state’s reluctance to get rid of free labor in the midst of their economy thriving off of the cash crop: cotton, was a huge part in causing the south to secede and fight a war with those who share the same country. Slavery was not confined solely to the South, but was spread to the North and towards the West. The westward expansion of America also caused slavery to reach into the Southwest, along with Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas, making slavery something that most if not all Americans experienced in the 1800s. “...So the expansion of slavery, which became the major political question of the 1850 's, was not just a political issue. It was a fact of life that every American had experienced during this period.”, wrote Eric Foner, Professor of History at Columbia University.iv Slavery was a huge part of the American way of life in the early 1800s, despite its immorality and lack of empathy.…

After the United States declared their independence, it began to divide into two, and later three, main sections: the North, the South, and in the late 1800’s, the West. The North and South had several differences between them, which created significant tension, leading up to the Civil War of 1861-1865. The North was much more industrial than the South, partially because of factors such as being a more popular immigration spot, as well as geographical factors. The South was more agricultural, and seen as more of an agrarian society. Some disagreements were political, while others were geographic and economical.…

Politics' function is to serve men, not to serve ideals. Ideals should move politics forward and direct policies, but not dictate the day-to-day work of political life. It is important to differentiate between ideals and common ground consensus. Ideals are what fuel individual's plans and desires, but in a democracy it should be common ground or reasonable concensus that should be applied for government policies. When common ground is reached, ironically ideally, the best of the different ideals would be incorporated on government policies.…

Although the discovery of abundant natural resources and fertile land in the South might lead many dwellers of early America to think that they have a prosperous path ahead of them, tasks are not as easily accomplished as they are thought to be due to a number of issues that surfaced as Americans begin to form and put together an effective system to transform these raw materials into usable products. As slavery became a condemning issue, several main groups and political parties such as the Fire-eaters, Free-soilers, Abolitionists and supporters of popular sovereignty formed and fought for what they thought was suitable for the country, to either allow, limit, or abolish slavery. Fire-eaters, also known as proslaveryites from the South, were…

In the video “Political Culture,” Thomas Patterson describes the origins and distinctiveness of American’s political ideals, illustrates the acceptance of these ideas by future generations (and challenges they pose), and provides examples of how these ideals affect today’s politics. When colonists questioned Britain’s authority over their public and private lives, the American Revolution was initiated and later ended with the colonies being freed from British rule. As a result, the colonies developed an important set of ideas such as the right of freedom, liberty, rights, and justice. These ideas, compiled in one writing known as the American Creed, was embraced by succeeding generations. Subsequently, rights were expanded to include minorities…
