3,446 black people are being subject to lynching in the years 1882 -1968, and of this 79% occurs in the South (“History of Lynchings”). This is because the South is more in tune with its racist views. During the 1930’s, the views of the North and South contrast drastically. They think different, believe different, and treat other racial groups different. The North was more inclusive and respectful towards people of color. Conversely, the South was quite diverse in comparison to the North. They did hideous acts to those who have done them no wrong, all for the sake of the color of their skin. This is simply untrue. The North took this into consideration when they participated minimally in these horrendous acts. There are a plethora of reasons that their actions and agendas are unjust. One reason being philosopher John Rawls’s, veil of ignorance. His, “social contract should try to ensure that everyone enjoys the maximum liberty possible without intruding upon the freedom of others” ( “Veil of ignorance” ). Which means that everyone should be free, but their freedom shouldn't overtake someone else's. However, the acts that are being committed contradict this statement, which furthers the point that the South’s agendas are not justifiable. Moreover, in the pledge of allegiance, it states “with liberty and justice for all." Liberty is defined as “The state of not being imprisoned or enslaved.”(Oxford Dictionary). Yet the South allowed their citizens to imprison African Americans in a state of fear. This is not only unjust but goes against the pledge of allegiance one usually says every day.
