Its environment is not as bad as the Sahara, but it often suffers from drought where there is no rain or little rain for long periods. In recent years, the Sahel has been experiencing areas that becomes increasingly dry. There is a very high chance that the Sahel is going to turn into a desert. Sandstorms are a major part of life in the Sahel area in Africa. The Sahel stretches from Senegal to Ethiopia. That means many countries encounter hot climate and long periods of drought. The Sahel Sandstorm spread diseases all over places which gave a lot of countries a hard time trying to recover. Most of the Sahel is not appropriate for growing crops. Marginal land usually has little or not possible for profit. Marginal lands often has poor soil or other harmful characteristics. This land is often located at the edge of deserts. And yet, most of the Sahel is marginal land. In recent years, the Sahel has been experiencing desertification. Desertification is the process by which land becomes more and more dry until it turns into desert. Desertification may be caused by climate change, human activities, or both. Climate change like drought or deforestation, human activities like inappropriate agriculture. Some nomads have increased the size of their herds so that they have animals on limited grazing land. Loss of vegetation from overgrazing may also contribute to desertification. Most people in the Sahel use wood as
