South Korea And US Relations

The unity and peace among countries is essential to the success of the world. Countries establish relations among each other to help out in departments such as assistance, economics, and representation. The United States relations with nations such as Japan, China, and Korea vary, but are all important to those countries. The United States and Japan established relations in 1858. However, during World War II the relations were cut off due to Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. After Japan decided to surrender to the United States, normal relations continued in 1952. Together the two countries work together on issues such as developmental assistance, global health and resource protection, and women’s empowerment. When North Korea invaded South Korea the United States and sixteen other countries went to defend South Korea. The US and South Korea share similar interest in democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. South Korea has had extreme economic growth in the last few decades and is the United State’s sixth largest trading partner("U.S. Relations With South Korea.”). However, the US relations with North Korea are much different than South Korea. Many forms of economic assistance from the US to North Korea are prohibited. Although, in times of natural disasters and famine the US has provided aid to North Korea with food and emergency aid. The two countries to not have diplomatic relations and North Korea has no embassy in Washington("U.S. Relations With North Korea.”). Overall, the United States relations with nations in East Asia are mainly good and have helped each country succeed. Their relations have helped improve human rights, offered aid and assistance, and helped the countries grow economically. I feel like these relations are important to all of the countries
