South Carolina Head Ball Coach Biography

Improved Essays
Today a legend steps down. University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier called it quits on a storied career. The Head Ball Coach, as he’s known by many, had a great run. He won over 228 games. He’s the winningest coach at both Florida and South Carolina. He took two struggling programs in Duke and South Carolina to new heights. At the age of 70 Coach Spurrier decided it was time to step down. He also did it in the middle of the season which some people including myself thought he should stay until the end of the season. It’s rare for a coach of Spurrier’s caliber to just walk away. Other legendary coaches have been criticized for staying to long. The names Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno come to mind.

His demeanor demanded greatness of those around him and he accepted nothing less. I remember watching him speak to my team and me as young 12-13 year old boys; I was filled with elation because I would have the opportunity to play with him in the upcoming year.…
