Charles Swart was the first state president in South Africa. He was born in the Winburg District of Orange Free State on 5 December 1894. Swart had a degree in B.A degree and studied at Gray University College. He worked as a teacher after completing his degree.
He later completed a diploma in journalism at the University Of Columbia. In 1941 he was selected as a member of Parliament and became minster of justice. Charles played a big role in furthering the policy of apartheid.
