Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona, Italy during the Renaissance while Gnomeo and Juliet is set on Verona Drive in modern day in the United Kingdom. "Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Verona, where we lay our scene)" (Act 1 Prologue, 1-2). The characters in both stories are also very different. For one, the characters in Gnomeo and Juliet are gnomes. Romeo and Juliet and their familes, are actually people. In Gnomeo and Juliet, Romeo's name is changed to Gnomeo.
