Sound Scavenger Hunt Report

: After the student has completed both the “sound scavenger hunt” and the group the” sound activity” the student will play a game with the initial sound skills called “beat the timer” I will have a list of about 100 different words on it. The student will be given 30 seconds on a timer to identify the initial sound of as many words as he can until time runs out. After doing this we will tally the number of correct responses and write them down. We will repeat this process to see if the student can identify the initial sound faster than round before.

    During one part of the conversation, when the children were having a hard time answering what the beginning sound of the word was, I gave the children other words that they may have been more familiar with. (As seen above, I used car as an example to explain the /c/ sound). This would allow the children to make the connection to beginning sounds more clear. When using words the children are familiar with, will hopefully help them make the connection to words that have similar beginning sounds. o It would have been hard to do in this type of setting, but I should have tried to ask more open-ended questions.     On September 17, I observed first grade, Elkhorn City Elementary teacher, Dana Sheets. These rambunctious students had just came back from lunch and were still phasing to settling down for their lesson.
