The point in writing this paper is to show how a two sided argument impacted one family. When half of a family is deaf and half of the family is hearing things can be complicated. This paper is going to be about the struggles that this family faced when it came to making decisions about cochlear implants. You will see how each family chooses how their children will experience life and the challenges they will have to overcome and how they will overcome them.
There were parts of the movie I liked and parts that I disliked. One thing that I liked in the movie was being able to see the two sided argument. I found it very fascinating to see the different opinions. There was a hearing side and then there was the deaf side.I was familiar with this topic of the controversy of cochlear implants. However I just didn't realize how big of a decision it is for the deaf community and how angry it made them. It was out of their comfort zone to look at cochlear implants. During the movie one thing that I noticed is that the deaf community were rude to hearing people. In specific the parents of Peter. Peter's parents wanted the best for their son and were looking out for him. However at the picnic when all the deaf community was together this showed how tight knit they all were. Cochlear implants jeopardize the deaf community because they believe that if everyone gets cochlear implants then there will be no deaf community. An example of deaf pride in the movie was when the deaf grandparents were arguing with Peter's parents you could really see how passionate they were about their community. I don't think that the two worlds would be able to compromise. The deaf community is too passionate about their
